Chapter 139 Someone Else Was Here First

But if it was the latter their there was a good chance their interests would clash.

Robin suddenly thought of something. “Ozzie, can you tell what floor those people are on?”

Oscar shook his head. “I can only see what’s on one piece of paper. I can’t see what’s inside one block…”

It sounded strange, but Robin understood him.

Oscar was still a child, so his descriptions weren’t always precise, but they were vivid in their own way.

What he meant was that in his perception, everything existed in two dimensions, as if layered onto a single sheet of paper. He couldn’t sense depth or spatial positioning the way a three–dimensional view would allow.

Before long, Jerome and Monica returned safely with the others.

“Robin,” Monica said, “this building has four exits total. Besides the main entrance, there are side doors on both sides and a back door in the rear. Both side doors are locked, but about a third of each one is glass. Jerome and I tested them just now. If we put some force into it, we could break through the glass.”

“Okay.” Robin nodded. “You all heard what Ozzie said. There are a lot of zombies in this building, so we need to be careful. Very careful. Once we go in, everyone follows my orders. Unless something unexpected happens, nobody leaves the main group on their own. If you do, whatever happens is on you.”

Everyone understood how serious the situation was and nodded quickly.

From the outside, they could tell the building had six floors. But this was a hospital, which meant there might also be an underground morgue.

“Let’s move.”

The group slipped silently into the hospital. The first floor was a large open lobby. On either side were elevators, one set going up and the other down, but with the power long gone, they had already stopped working.

“Over there…”

Ella lightly tapped Robin on the shoulder. The pharmacy was on the far left. But now its front doors stood wide open. Even from this distance, they could tell the place inside had been torn apart.

Someone had beaten them to it?

That thought flashed through everyone’s mind.

Not far from the pharmacy, a zombie was clutching a head in its hands. No, not even a head anymore. It was really just a skull. The surface had already been licked nearly clean, but the zombie still wasn’t satisfied.

Two fingers stripped down to exposed bone hooked into the skull’s eye sockets. It desperately reached deep inside, scraping out blackened brain matter and slurping it into its mouth.

At the sight, a few of the weaker–stomached people felt their guts churn violently. They almost threw up on the spot.

Fortunately, they forced it down. All they could do was turn their heads away, tear their eyes off the zombie, and force themselves not to look again..

“There should still be medicine in the pharmacy. Those people didn’t take everything,” Ella whispered. “Robin, should we check it first?”

Robin nodded. “Let’s go.”

From where they stood, they couldn’t see the entire pharmacy clearly, so there was no way to know if other zombies were hiding inside.

The pharmacy was large. Robin left a few people guarding the entrance while the rest followed her in carefully.

“Wait.”

Robin grabbed Dylan by the arm.

Dylan raised a brow. “What is it?”

“Zombies aren’t much of a threat to you. While we’ve got the chance, go take a look around somewhere else. See how the zombies are distributed. And those living people Ozzie mentioned. If possible, find out who they are.”

Dylan paused, then agreed without hesitation. “Got it. I’ll follow your lead.”

Robin watched his figure disappear around the corner, then withdrew her gaze and stepped into the pharmacy last.

Inside, the place was a wreck. It looked like someone had gone through it by force. Shelves had been knocked over, and ripped–open boxes were scattered all over the floor.

The group that had come before them clearly knew what they were doing. They had torn open the boxes and taken only the medicine inside. After all, the packaging took up unnecessary space

“Be careful, everyone. Any medicine you collect can also be exchanged for points later.”

The moment she said that, everyone’s eyes lit up. Points were their biggest motivation now.

Before heading out, each person had brought an enormous backpack. This was finally the moment for them to be useful.

After searching the whole pharmacy and confirming there were no zombies inside, the group started packing everything they could.
