End of the World? I'm the Boss novel Chapter 215

End Times, Surviving with My Beastly Army

Chapter 215 The Mastermind

“You’re really going keep playing games at a time like this?”

Ella made a cold sound. “I gave you a chance. If you’ve got nothing to say, then I don’t see any reason to keep you alive.”

She started reaching for him again. The man remembered the feeling of being lifted off his feet, and his voice cracked with panic. “I’ll talk. I’ll talk.”

“Oh?”

Ella paused. “Go on, then. Who sent you?”

“It was-”

The man swallowed hard, then forced the name out.

“Lyle?”

Ella was genuinely caught off guard.

Why him?

“He works for Serena. If he sent you, the order had to come from her.”

“No, no. It really didn’t.”

The man said, “It was Lyle’s idea…

“He said, he said that one look at you people and he could tell you were bad news. You had to be here to milk this base for whatever you could get.

“He said Captain Shaw didn’t know what she was doing. She was weak, that’s why she was rolling out the red carpet for you. People like you should just be killed outright. No point in any kind of partnership.

“We were following his orders. Take you out, and it would look good for us. Once command was pleased, they might even hand him Captain Shaw’s position.”

None of them had expected it to be like this.

Ella and the others were briefly at a loss for words. “Sounds like being captain isn’t exactly a cushy job for Serena. What was the plan to start with? Gas us to death?”

“It wasn’t gas, exactly. It was a sleeping agent. We were going to knock you out, then set a fire. But…”

But they hadn’t been able to set the fire, because Ella had kicked her door in first.

They couldn’t figure out how it had gone wrong. They’d been so careful about the whole operation. How had Ella noticed?

He glanced up at the sky outside the window, his worry showing. “I don’t know when they’ll be back. I hope they’re staying safe out there.”

Martin looked down at the three unconscious men on the floor. Redwood Military Base

Had it really fallen this far?

Even after all this time, Chase and his men were still sprawled where she’d left them. Nobody had come to deal with the bodies.

The blood on the ground had dried. The iron smell was weaker now, but something in the air still carried a note she couldn’t quite name.

Robin stepped carefully into the alley.

There was no light inside. She’d taken only a few steps into the pitch dark when she felt the rush of a movement behind her.

Her eyes sharpened. She spun, and in the same motion, her hand was locked around someone’s throat.

“Ngh”

The person let out a strangled sound. Robin’s eyes narrowed, and then she recognized him. “You? You’re awake?”

The man froze at the sound of her voice. A muffled, strained noise came out of him.

Robin released him, and her voice turned cold. “I spared your life, and this is what you do? If I’d squeezed any harder, you’d be dead”

The man slumped to the ground. He’d been weak to begin with, and Robin’s grip had nearly cut off his air supply entirely.

He coughed several times before he could force his voice out, rasping, “No—I didn’t know it was you. I was scared…”
