End of the World? I'm the Boss novel Chapter 230

Chapter 230 A Bag of Rice

“As long as Centerville residents are willing to take in people from Outerville, right? Take them in! Why wouldn’t we? We’re all human. At a time like this, helping each other is what we should be doing!”

“Exactly! It’s just letting them move in. It doesn’t really cost us anything, and we can even get a free bag of rice!”

“Linden Plaza, right? At Linden Plaza! I’ve got to hurry back and tell my wife. If we’re late, there won’t be any left!”

Shouting as they went, the group rushed excitedly toward Linden Plaza.

At first, the crowd had been confused and unsure, but under their influence, everyone quickly lost the ability to think clearly. One single thought filled their minds.

Linden Plaza! A bag of rice!

The reason they had initially opposed letting Outerville residents into Centerville was simply because they felt their own interests were being threatened.

But now, compared to a bag of rice, those so-called interests didn’t seem worth anything at all. And it wasn’t just one bag per household. Every individual could receive a bag of rice.

A massive crowd surged forward. Robin’s lips twitched.

That kid Willard…

Good.

Definitely someone with potential.

Robin raised her hand, and a thick wall of ice formed around the perimeter of Linden Plaza, leaving only an opening like a bank counter.

It was meant to prevent chaos.

When the excited crowd saw the ice wall appear out of nowhere, they rushed forward. Someone couldn’t hold back and shouted, “I heard you’re giving out free rice here, is that true?”

Robin didn’t answer. With a wave of her hand, a wall of rice bags appeared behind her.

At the sight of the white rice piled high, the residents grew even more excited. Their breathing became heavier.

Robin smiled. “Line up.”

“Why the hell are we lining up? I’m asking you a question. Are you giving out free rice or not?!”

A man shoved his way to the front, practically trying to stick his head through the small opening in the ice wall.

Spit flew as he spoke, his face full of eagerness as he stared at Robin.

“You… you’re taking over?”

The man from earlier shouted in disbelief. “Who the hell are you?! Where’s our original base commander?”

“Yeah, we want our original commander!”

Dylan let out a scoff. “You want Chad? Then let me ask you this. Under his leadership, were you living the kind of life you wanted?”

The crowd fell silent for a moment, but the answer was obvious.

No.

But for them, all they wanted was a place to survive in the apocalypse. They didn’t care about shifts in power at the top, nor did they have the energy to.

As long as their own rights weren’t violated, it didn’t really matter to them who the base commander was.

“Under Chad’s management, Redwood Military Base has turned into a complete mess,” Martin said in a low voice.

“When this base was first established, the goal was to create a safe haven for ordinary people during the apocalypse, to be a support system for everyone. But now, the class divide inside the base is severe, and people can barely survive. That’s not what we want to see. Starting today, we’re taking over Redwood Military Base. I can’t promise to bring life back to what it was before the apocalypse, but I can promise that everyone here will be able to live safely. You won’t have to worry about food, and you won’t have to fear attacks from your own kind.”

Robin picked up where he left off. “Of course, even if you don’t support us, that’s fine. But I want to make one thing clear. Starting today, as long as you’re willing to follow me, each of you will receive half a bag of rice for free every month.”
