Chapter 192: I’ve Got It Straight.–2
Ethan
The presenter nods, clearly interested.
“So… are you officially back together?”
I smile, I can’t help it.
“Yes.”
I’m not hiding it.
“We’re together.”
And to say it like that… out loud… in front of everyone… It feels good, it feels right.
“That’s incredible,” she says. “A lot of people think second chances don’t work.”
I shake my head gently.
“They do work… if you both change.”
And I did, I know. I’m not the same man who let her go.
“So what’s next for you two?” she asks.
There… That’s where my mind moves a second further. Beyond this interview, beyond what everyone can see. Because what’s next… It’s something I haven’t said out loud yet, but I’ve thought about it.
Many times, marrying her again. Doing it right, differently. Not like before… not from the mistaken certainty that nothing can break. But from the certainty that everything can be lost… and still choose it. But I don’t say it, not yet, not here.
“Keep building,” I finally reply. “Step by step.”
The interview continues, but a part of me… is no longer entirely there. It’s somewhere else, with her.
Hours later, when everything is over and I return home… I find her in the living room, Clara. She’s sitting, with a magazine in her hand, but she’s not really reading.
She looks up when I enter… and smiles.
And there… There it is. Everything I need, and I approach her slowly, letting my jacket fall over the back of
a chair.
“Did you see me?” I ask.
She nods.
“Yes.”
Her smile widens slightly.

I saw you.”
I stop in front of her. “So?”
She tilts her head slightly, analyzing me as she often does.
“You look very good on camera, Mr. Blackwood.”
I let out a low laugh.
“That’s not what I meant.”
She knows, of course she knows.
She sets the magazine aside and stands up.
“I liked what you said.”
Her voice is softer now, more… intimate.
“Which part?” I ask.
She takes another step closer.
“The part where you said you’re in love.”
I look at her. There’s nothing to hide between us right now.
“It’s true.”
I don’t say it with exaggerated intensity. I say it… as something that simply is.
“I know,” she replies. And that certainty in her voice… That… makes me feel something different. Something firm and unwavering.
I bring a hand to her face, gently caressing her cheek.
“I’m not going to lose you again.”
She doesn’t answer right away… but she moves a little closer. Close enough for her breath to mingle with
mine.
“Then don’t,” she says softly. And that… That’s all I need.
I kiss her. It’s not a desperate kiss, it’s a necessary one, without urgency. It’s… safe. Like everything we’re building now.
My lips move with hers with a calmness I’d never known before. As if there were no more rush… as if timè finally, were on our side.
When I pull away, I rest my forehead against hers.
“I have something on my mind…” I murmur.
She frowns slightly.

“Something work–related?”
† smile.
“No.”

I look directly at her.
“Something better.”
I don’t give any more details, not yet. But in my mind… It’s already starting to take shape. This time… I’m going to do it right.
I grip her waist tightly, pull her close, and think to myself… what if I propose again?
