Chapter 385 Who Else Is Coming?

Rolf walked forward with a wide smile, even pulling out a cigarette. Looks like we really are destined to meet again. Who would’ve thought we’d run into each other like this? Your visit truly brings honor to Tyrant Base!”
Martin tilted his head slightly to avoid the offered cigarette and said flatly, “Sorry, I don’t smoke.”
Rolf froze for a moment, then laughed again. “Sorry. I forgot you’re a marr with principles. That was rude of me. My apologies…”
Martin curled his lips faintly. “Commander Pearson, since I’m already here, there’s no need for us to keep speaking in riddles, right? I believe we both know very well why I came today.”
Not expecting him to be so direct, Rolf’s smile stiffened before he nodded. “Yes, yes, of course. I was just excited to see a familiar face.
“Please come inside. May I ask if our cooperation went smoothly?”
“Of course, it went smoothly.”
Martin looked straight into his eyes. “I just didn’t expect you could even turn against your own people.”
A trace of embarrassment flashed in Rolf’s eyes, and he let out an awkward laugh. “Commander Bax, you must be joking. To be honest, Robin was never truly one of Tyrant Base. She only joined midway and relied on her strength to act arrogantly in the base, not even showing respect to me as the base commander.
“I didn’t want to make a move against her, but her behavior was far too overbearing. If I kept letting someone like that run wild in our base, then what authority would I still have?
“We do need powerful people, but if a powerful person can’t be completely controlled by us, then she can’t blame me for what happens next, right?”
As he spoke, Rolf carefully watched Martin’s expression, as if trying to find a hint of agreement.
r But Martin’s face remained flat the whole time. Rolf couldn’t read anything from it, which made him feel inexplicably uneasy.
Martin continued, “But in that case, wouldn’t that mean sacrificing several other members of your base for nothing?”
Rolf immediately smiled, looking completely unconcerned. “What’s the big deal about sacrificing a few useless underlings? Besides, those people weren’t very strong anyway and couldn’t contribute much to the base. Whether they stayed or not didn’t really matter.”
Not far away, Rolf’s voice came through clearly over the walkie–talkie in Robin’s hand.
Rolf probably never imagined that the walkie–talkie clipped to the back of Martin’s waist was flashing with a red light, clearly turned on.
“Now I’m truly done holding onto hope.”

Nancy gave a bitter smile. “So we really were just disposable carmon fodder, after all.”
Aldrich sighed, his expression complicated as he placed a hand on his injured leg. “I actually injured this leg while saving Rolf back then.”
He had always believed that although their squad wasn’t strong, Rolf would at least remember their kindness in saving his life.
Now it seemed he had simply been overthinking it.

Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter listened to the voices from the walkie–talkie, exchanged glances, then looked toward Aldrich and the others. “You guys really used to work for trash like that?”
Their tone carried obvious mockery.
Beaux replied speechlessly, “You don’t seem much better than us. Didn’t that heir from Vernon Base run off without even looking back when you were injured? If Ms. Neel hadn’t been kind, you’d probably already be dead! We’re all in the same boat, so don’t act like you’re any better than us!”
Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter fell silent.
Damn.
That comeback hit hard.
Both sides clashed verbally and ended up hurting each other equally.
