Chapter 414 Saved
Henry let out a short, skeptical laugh. “I appreciate the effort, but that’s a little far-fetched even for a pep talk.”
Dylan looked at him with complete seriousness. “I’m not trying to make you feel better.”
Dylan’s mind had already run the numbers, and by every calculation that processor of a brain could produce, there was a genuine eighty percent probability this would work exactly as described.
“And Robin wasn’t wrong either. An ability doesn’t appear in a person without reason. The fact that it showed up in you at all is proof that you’re capable of controlling it. Why won’t you ar least try?”
“Try?” Henry repeated, the word coming out dry and hollow.
He shook his head slowly. “Any other time, sure. But this isn’t a training exercise. There are actual lives in my hands right now. I can’t just treat this like a practice run.”
Dylan’s mouth curved slightly. “Alright. Even if you can’t trust yourself, can you at least trust Robin?”
Henry went still.
Dylan held his gaze steadily. “You know as well as I do that she’s never once let us down. Even if you can’t control the blast force perfectly, she’s there to catch what you miss.
“All you have to do is commit completely. Put everything you have into this and don’t hold back.”
Henry found himself looking toward Robin before he’d consciously decided to.
Something strange happened in that moment. The second his eyes found her, the tension coiling through his chest unraveled without warning.
He couldn’t deny it, even to himself. The two of them bickered constantly. He pushed back on her almost out of habit at
is point.
But right now, looking at the steady line of her spine, the calm she carried like something permanent, that feeling of solid ground under his feet refused to be argued away.
“Okay,” he said quietly.
His eyes steadied and sharpened. “I don’t need to be calm. Klay, get ready. We’re starting right
now.”
Calm was a luxury he didn’t have. The people buried below didn’t have time to wait for ir dither.

“Are you ready?”
Robin looked at him with a long, searching gaze.
Henry drew a slow breath. “Let’s do it.”
Sevyn’s fists clenched at her sides, tight enough to hurt. “Please. Please.”
Robin, Klay, and Henry positioned themselves at three separate points around the area.
“Is this the spot?” Klay’s voice carried an edge of nerves that he couldn’t quite flatten.
Pal listened carefully a second time, then a third, and finally gave a firm, certain nod. “Yes.”
“Alright.”
Klay extended his hand, and a sphere of orange flame bloomed in his palm, alive and restless.
The others stepped back. Klay drew his arm back and threw, and the flame flew clean and accurate, landing precisely on the spot Pal identified.
In the same instant, a sharp light flashed through Henry’s eyes. A tremendous, crushing pressure condensed in the air above the flame.
The next second, that small sphere of fire was compressed inward and released all at once.
The explosion tore through the air with a sound that shook everything around them, sending rubble and dust blasting outward in every direction, the ground shuddering beneath their feet.
Robin moved the moment the blast cleared, pale blue light spreading from her hands and driving down through the earth in a single, swift motion, a thick barrier solidifying just below the surface.
“Mom, I’m scared!”
Down below, the three of them had no way of knowing what was happening above.
All they felt was the world beginning to shake around them, dust and broken rock raining down from the ceiling and landing on their faces and shoulders.
The third person finally broke under the fear. “What in the world is happening up there? I thought your husband was coming to save you! What is this? It feels like they’re trying to bury
us alive!”
The trembling around them pulled at the rebar running through Lydia’s abdomen, and the wound that had gone numb started screaming again with a raw, bone-deep pain.
Lydia’s face went the color of ash. Despair settled into her like something final
