Chapter 463 An Attempt to Negotiate

5 Pests

Robin had never intended to form a particularly close relationship with Heningford Base. They were better suited as business partners.

Besides, it would be even better if she could get more crystal cores out of the deal.

As everyone hurried around collecting crystal cores, one of Langston’s men, Drew Bradford, couldn’t hold back any longer.

He waited until he had Langston alone in a secluded corner and lowered his voice. Commander, are you really going to agree to this deal so easily?

What else would you have me do?Langston asked. Opportunities this good don’t come around often. We can’t let it pass us by.”

But…” Drew said anxiously. She won’t tell us what the crystal cores are for. What if they’re incredibly valuable? Isn’t it too reckless to hand them over so easily? I can’t shake the feeling that there’s a huge secret behind these cores. Otherwise, why would she offer to trade for them? I think we should negotiate. Her list says ten Level 2 cores for one bag of rice. We could push for a better price. Eight cores, or at least bring it down to nine. Otherwise, I can’t help feeling like we’re getting the short end of the deal

Langston turned to him with a stern expression. Drew, do you even hear yourself?

Of course I do,Drew said quickly. I just think that if we’re going to work together, both sides should be honest. But she refuses to tell us what she needs the cores for. What if they’re worth far more than the supplies she’s offering? We’d be taking a huge loss!

Langston’s voice turned icy. Then tell me. What do you think these cores are worth? Do you know how to use them?

Drew gave an awkward laugh. Commander, come onYou know I don’t

Then what is the point of any of this?

Langston looked away, his voice flat. Drew, I’ve always valued how careful and observant you are, but don’t get too clever for your own good. Ms. Neel saved us today. Without her, this base would have suffered devastating losses. We might not have survived at all. Now she’s offering us an excellent deal. We don’t know what the crystal cores do, which means they’re nothing but useless junk in our hands.”

He continued, Stop trying to squeeze more value out of something that has no value to us in the first place. As far as I’m concerned, Ms. Neel’s offer is already more than fair. She’s straightforward, and we’ll likely be working with her for a long time. Let me warn you now. Don’t try anything behind my back. If you offend any of our partners, I’ll hold you responsible.

Drew’s face shifted between anger and embarrassment. His fists clenched at his sides, but he forced himself to answer, Of course. I understand.

Langston gave him one final warning look before walking away.

Drew remained where he was, his expression changing again and again. At last, he let out a long breath. As if he had made up his mind, he headed toward Robin.

Chapter 463 An Attempt to Negotiate

45 Pears

You want to negotiate?Robin asked with a faint, knowing smile. Is that it?

Drew steadied himself. Ms. Neel, I wouldn’t put it that way. I’m simply trying to secure a fairer price on behalf of Heningford Base. Since you’re gathering crystal cores on such a large scale, they must be extremely useful to you. I think

Before he could finish, Robin interrupted him. Stop.”

She continued, I don’t need to hear the rest. Just tell me one thing. Is this your idea, or Langston’s?

IDrew hesitated, then spoke, It came from Commander Calloway

Erin studied him for a moment and scoffed. He’s lying. His whole forehead is soaked with sweat.

Robin looked at him. The truth.”

Under her piercing gaze, Drew had no choice but to push on. I’m representing the base and proposing what I believe is a reasonable arrangement

So Langston knows nothing about this. Is that right?
