With My Beastly Army
Chapter 491 Somebody, Help
It hadn’t melted. And it didn’t look like it had melted and solidified again, either.
Since we’re asking for your help, we’ll make it worth your while,” Robin said. “Can we go in now?”
The guard hesitated, looking at the chocolate in his hand, but still asked dutifully, “Are you here to see our base commander?”
“Yes.”
The guard looked troubled. “Our commander isn’t here. He went to Crosspoint Base for a meeting.”
That caught Robin by surprise.
A meeting at Crosspoint Base?
As expected of Kapitol. They’d managed to centralize things this much in such a short time.
Even commanders of small suburban bases were obligated to attend meetings at Crosspoint Base.
“Then when will he be back?”
“Hard to say.” The guard shook his head. “He left a week ago. Driving to downtown takes about two days, and if he runs into zombie attacks along the way, it could take even longer.”
“Have you ever been to Crosspoint Base?”
Erin’s question made the guard laugh. “No way. That’s Crosspoint Base. Small fry like us aren’t qualified to go there!
“Only the registered commanders from the major bases are invited to attend meetings at Crosspoint Base. They also regularly distribute supply subsidies to registered bases. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing. Some weaker small bases rely entirely on those subsidies to survive.”
Robin had come here to learn about Kapitol’s current situation, but this turned out to be an unexpected bonus.
Kapitol’s development after the apocalypse had far exceeded her expectations. Once this base’s commander returned, she might even learn some inside information about Crosspoint Base.
That would save her a lot of trouble.

So far, it seemed every base in Kapitol looked independent, but was actually controlled by Crosspoint Base. Even outsiders like them had to be reported once they joined a base, so that everything could be managed under a unified system.
“Did you say you want to set up a partnership between Redwood Military Base in Klam and our base?”
The guard looked taken aback.
Robin nodded. “Yes. Are there any requirements?”
The guard made a face. “Requirements? No, of course not…”
He hesitated for a while before adding, “I don’t know what kind of place Redwood Military Base is, but the fact that you made it all the way here safe and sound suggests your base must be quite powerful.
“To be honest, Maple Base is just a small base in Kapitol. We don’t have many residents, we’re not very strong, and our location isn’t great. We’re out here in the suburbs, not downtown, so every supply run is difficult. Even if you want to partner with us, I’m afraid we don’t have much to offer…
“I really don’t understand why you’d choose us. How about I give you a map of the other bases? You can take a look and see if one of them would be a better fit.”
At first, it sounded like he was putting his own base down. In reality, though, the guard was sharp.
He kept stressing how weak they were while trying to steer Robin’s group toward other bases. In short, he wanted to avoid the trouble.
Robin could understand why he was being so cautious.
After all, they were outsiders. The guard knew nothing about them. If they were dangerous, taking them in would be like letting a fox into the henhouse.
The less trouble, the better. No one wanted to invite unnecessary problems.
Robin decided to cut straight to the point. “You don’t actually think your base is bad. You’re just worried we’re up to no good, aren’t you?”
The guard gave an awkward laugh. “I wouldn’t put it like that…”
But inwardly, he couldn’t help but grumble, Some things are better left unsaid. Why did she have to say it out loud?
