Alice was in despair. Her voice dripped with bitter sarcasm as she looked at Belen. “Do you really think John Perez would just accept me because we send me to him like some pawn? You’re delusional if you
believe that.” (1
Belen was momentarily stunned by her sharp tone but quickly recovered, a cruel sneer spreading across his face. “Does it matter if he accepts you willingly? I can always drug John. As long as you end up in his bed-married or not-the family benefits. That’s all that counts.”
Alice’s fury flared at Belen’s shamelessness. “You’re disgusting!” she spat, voice trembling. But no one else spoke up – everyone else silently nodded in agreement. The plan was accepted.
–
Before she could protest further, the heavy front door opened, and Ethan stepped in, his brow furrowed with concern. “Who said the cooperation with the Morgan family has been canceled?” His voice cut through the thick tension.
Belen laughed, loud and mocking. “You don’t even know what’s happening, do you? You’re so clueless, Ethan. Stay out of this, or John Perez himself will make sure you regret it.” (1
Alice’s eyes reddened with tears she refused to let fall. She whispered softly, “I’m sorry, Ethan… You should leave. There’s no way out for me.”
–
Belen’s voice boomed through the room. “This is all your fault – you and Ethan! Offending Maxime Trent was the final straw.” The others joined in, their words sharp and unforgiving, lashing at Alice and Ethan
with a brutal chorus of blame.
Ethan’s eyes narrowed, a dangerous glint lighting up. “I’m nobody’s fool. Unlike you.”
At that, Eleanor, Alice’s mother, stepped forward, voice sharp as broken glass.
“Ethan, do you really want to challenge us? You’re nothing but a stubborn child playing in a game far beyond your reach.”
Lawrence, Alice’s father, sneered from the corner.
“Do you think you’re strong? You’re weak, Ethan. If Maxime wanted to deal with you, he’d crush you without blinking.”
Her grandmother’s eyes narrowed, voice trembling with anger.
“Enough of this nonsense!Alice and Ethan you’re both two useless idiots!”
Her uncle slammed his fist on the table. “You think you can just walk in here and ruin everything? You’re ruining Alice’s future with your arrogance.” (1
Alice’s chest tightened, pain cutting deep. She swallowed hard but couldn’t stop the tears that
threatened to fall. “I gave everything to this family… and this is how you repay me? By throwing me aside like garbage?”

But Ethan only sneered in return, eyes cold. “Who said the cooperation with the Morgan family was off?” His voice carried a new, deadly confidence. “Maxime Trent’s word means nothing. He’s finished.”
The room burst into mocking laughter again, disbelief ringing in every voice.
“Finished? What nonsense are you spewing now?” – Belen laughed bitterly.
“You really think he’s done? You’re dreaming, Ethan.” – Eleanor scoffed.
“Maxime Trent is untouchable – don’t make us laugh.” – Lawrence sneered.
–
“You’re delusional.” Her uncle shook his head.
Ethan met their mocking gazes without flinching. Then, turning to Alice, he said quietly, “Check your phone.”
Alice froze, her fingers trembling as she pulled out her phone from the depths of her pocket. She saw several missed calls blinking on the screen – calls she hadn’t noticed during the verbal attack. Then, a new call came in – Elsa’s name flashing across the screen.
