Her resolute refusal left Jasper silent for a long time.
Tatiana simply ordered a few signature dishes, which were cheap and large in portion. The surroundings were boisterous, unsuitable for conversation. As soon as he spoke, his voice was drowned out by the laughter nearby. After several attempts, his face darkened.
Tatiana lowered her head and ate, finding it somewhat amusing.
Jasper looked at her and suddenly asked, “Doesn’t it feel uncomfortable?”
She understood what he meant and shook her head. “I’m used to it.”
She almost never took off her mask outside. Even when eating, she would pull the mask down for a bite and then pull it back up, her movements awkward and cumbersome.
Jasper said lightly, “Take it off. Don’t worry about other people’s eyes.”
She pretended not to hear and completely ignored his words.
Seeing that he wasn’t eating, she simply finished the spring roll in front of him.
At the last bite, another piece blocked her.
“Not leaving a bite?”
She instinctively said, “Didn’t you say you don’t like to eat it?”
As soon as she finished speaking, she wished she could slap herself.
Sure enough, Jasper narrowed his eyes, his voice dangerous. “How do you know?”
He didn’t like chives. She knew it well. But the current her shouldn’t know it.
Tatiana calmly said, “I’m not blind. If you don’t touch it, you must not like it.”
His fork slid down, picking up the last spring roll and sending it into his mouth.
Tatiana hadn’t expected him to actually eat it.
He said lightly, “People’s preferences change.”
This sentence carried an inexplicable emotion. Tatiana lowered her gaze, unable to decipher his meaning. She felt that he seemed to have become strange, no longer the cold and heartless Jasper she knew.

Halfway through the meal, Tatiana got up to go to the restroom.
Since there was only one stall in the ladies‘ room, several people were lining up, so she had to wait patiently.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Jasper get up to take a call. Even amidst the noisy crowd, he was still the most dazzling presence; every passerby couldn’t help but sneak a peek at him.
A bright pearl fallen to the dust, its light still blinding. She had once been captivated by his radiance like this, blinded, pursuing him relentlessly and without regret.
She retracted her gaze, hiding the faint trace of loneliness and relief in her heart.
Just as she was about to enter the restroom, she caught a glimpse of a nervous–looking person slowly approaching.
She hadn’t noticed him at first, but the man was wearing an unseasonable padded jacket with several holes showing the cotton batting. He had no shoes, was disheveled, and looked like a beggar.
He kept one hand tucked into his clothes, his eyes darting around, his expression showing a nervous, yet secretly excited look.
He seemed to be looking for something but hadn’t found his target.
The surrounding customers looked at him with disgust, dramatically covering their noses, muttering, “Where did this beggar come from? He stinks!”
The proprietress, afraid of damaging her business, rushed over to shoo him away. “Go! Go! Don’t ruin my business! Get out!”
The next moment, the man’s expression turned instantly ferocious. The hand he had tucked away drew out a long watermelon knife, and he plunged it directly toward the proprietress.
No one had time to react.
They watched in horror as the proprietress was struck several times and fell down, blood flowing everywhere.
Following that, he began attacking the next person, indiscriminately.
And Jasper… was right, beside the lunatic, his back turned while on the phone!
Tatiana’s pupils contracted. Her body instinctively rushed out.
“Danger!”

Jasper seemed to sense something and violently spun around, only to see the knife swinging toward him.
His expression changed. Just as he was about to kick the man away, a figure arrived faster, grabbing a chair and fiercely smashing it against the attacker.
The man cried out in pain, his eyes turning red, thoroughly enraged. “Die! You bitch! Rotten trash! Die!”
The knife went straight for Tatiana.
Tatiana’s heart sank. She turned to flee but tripped over a chair beneath her feet and fell heavily.
“You bitch! I’ll kill you! You slut!”
The man raised the knife, ready to bring it down, but was tackled to the ground by a great force, followed by a flurry of fists.
One punch after another, with no restraint.
Jasper was like an enraged beast, his eyes flashing red, the murderous aura around his brow practically materialized, exuding intense, pressing killing intent.
“Who gave you the nerve to touch her!”
“You’re courting death!”
His fighting skills were too much for an ordinary person to withstand.
In a short while, the man had lost most of his teeth, his face was covered in blood, his jaw dislocated, his arms broken, and the blood–stained knife lay discarded nearby. He had no ability to fight back.
Yet, Jasper did not stop.
The inexplicable rage that had been building up for days was finally unleashed.
In his mind, the memory of seeing her ‘corpse‘ in the morgue that day gradually overlapped with the moment she was nearly stabbed just now.
He had almost lost her again.
Seeing the frenzied man barely clinging to life with a bloodied head, Jasper still did not halt his attack. His ferocity prevented anyone nearby from daring to intervene.
