Chapter 274 A Trust Shattered
He had finally asked.
Tatiana similed. Find out what? That you made a deal with Bianca?”
Chandler’s face went white.
She said, word by word, “You were the last person in the world I thought I could trust.”
Chandler opened his mouth, but no words came. “Tatiana, let me explain…”
“Go on. Explain.”

He looked down, defeated. “I didn’t have a choice. Jasper was about to find us! You and I both knew what would happen if he caught us. And both children were so weak. We didn’t have the energy to save both of them. We had to choose. I know it was a terrible thing to do, but I had no choice.”
She shook her head. “Wrong. It wasn’t that you had no choice. It’s that you didn’t give me a choice. I’m their mother. I carried them for ten months. I was the one suffering. I should have been the one to make that choice, not you.”
This was the one thing she could never accept. He had used “for your own unforgivable choice for her.

“If–and I mean if–Bianca had been cruel to that child, or if he had died… what would have happence the moment I learned the truth?”
Chandler was speechless, his eyes red, his fists clenched
“You didn’t do it for me. You did it for yourself.”
She slowly began to close the door.
Chandler lunged, catching it with his hand. He asked one last question. “Tatiana, did you ever… think of me? In these three years, was there ever a single second… that you wavered?”
She was silent for a long time. She wouldn’t lie to him. “Yes.”
Three years of him by her side, day and night, his gentle care, his total devotion… how could she not have wavered?
She had thought about it. If not three years, then five, or ten. She wouldn’t have been able to resist that kind of persistent devotion forever. Eventually, she might have cleared out her heart and learned to accept
someone new.
Chandler’s face grew even paler. He forced a smile that was uglier than a grimace. “So… I’m the one who ruined everything.”
The door closed.
The small crack that had begun to open between them was sealed shut.
Chandler stood there, staring at the door, his heart aching. But he had no one to blame but himself.
“I’m sorry, Tatiana.”

After half a month. Tatiana was finally back at her desk, ending her leave. Anna had been worried sick.
“Is everything settled?”
“Yes, it’s settled.”
For safety, she had installed a full surveillance system at home, complete with a one–touch panic button. She checked in on Ann whenever she had a free moment.
“Good. You’re back just in time. I have great news. We’ve been nominated for Best New Song of the Year!”
New songs came out all the time. Competing for that award was tough. Even Harpie wasn’t a guaranteed win, let alone a new song from a new artist released at the end of the year.
But in just two weeks, “Cocoon” had become a massive hit. It was playing everywhere, and the comments on the song had already flown past one hundred thousand, rising like a rocket.
Will had also become a hot commodity, with invitations pouring in from music shows.
Anna had more news. “And, though I know you don’t really care… you’ve also been nominated f Composer!”
“Hm. Is there prize money?”
“Of course there is!”
“In that case, I’m very
interested.”
The two women looked at each other and smiled. The atmosphere was light for the first time in a while.
Knock, knock.
“Tati, the boss wants to see you.”
“Okay, I’m on my way.”
She went to the office and pushed the door open, immediately seeing someone sitting inside who looked vaguely familiar.
“Tati, you’re here. Let me introduce you. This is Ms. Emily.”
Tatiana searched her memory and finally remembered where she’d seen her.
It was that woman from the restaurant–the one who looked so much like her old self.
“Hello, Tati. I’ve heard so much about you.”
Emily had a sweet, innocent smile. Every move she made was graceful, the very picture of a well–bred young lady.
“My name is Emily. I came here today to ask for a favor

She took our a file and handed it over.
This is an unfinished piece of music. I was hoping you could help me complete it. It’s important that it stays true to the original’s style and feeling”
Tatiana took it and glanced over the pages. She froze.
It was a photocopy of a partial, handwritten score. It was only the first half, and the last few notes were scrawled, as if the writer had been interrupted.
Even just this half a piece was stunning.
Emily continued, “As long as you can finish it, Tati, price is no object. I only have one requirement. I need it by the end of the month. I want to give it to a relative.”
The boss chimed in. “It’s a thoughtful gift. For Madam Lindsey’s seventieth birthday.”
Emily smiled. “Yes. I want to give it to my grandmother. I really had to ask you for this, Tati.”
