Mushroom Cloud
“There was a lot of cargo in there ready to be shipped, orders. Now it’s all gone up in smoke. This won’t be easy to smooth over.”
“Who the hell was that bold?”
“It seems… it was a kid.”
“…You’ve got to be kidding!”
No one believed it.
But it was the truth.
Ashton watched the surveillance footage over and over, watching how that damn brat had snuck into the kitchen, avoiding all the patrols.
And how he had unbelievably taken a pile of weird things, stacked them, mixed them, put them in the microwave, and set a timer.
Finally, bang. It exploded. The monitor went to static.
He viciously kicked the table to pieces. “Find him! You must find him for me!!”
He wanted to tear that damn brat limb from limb!
“Boss! Bad news! The baby is gone!”
Ashton’s face grew even darker. He rushed to the scene, only to see the crushed wet nurse, but no sign of the child.
The armory destroyed, the loss of his beloved son… His anger shot through the roof.
“Good. Very good! If I don’t settle this score, I’ll blow my own brains out!”

Late at night.
Tatiana hesitated several times, but ultimately left Hubert and the baby behind to go retrieve the item Trina had left.
“Hubert, can you handle this?”
Little Hubert held the even smaller baby, nodding forcefully. “Mommy, don’t worry, I can! I’ll

wait here for you to come back!”
How could she not worry?
But the outside was full of people looking for them. Taking them out would only be more dangerous.
There was no time for her to hesitate!
“If he cries, use this to feed him, to shut his mouth. If he keeps crying…” She hardened her heart, gritted her teeth, and said, “Leave him here. You run west. Hide, and wait for Mommy to come back and find you.”
“Mm! The baby is very good!”
At this moment, the baby was asleep, not reacting, quiet and well–behaved.
She couldn’t delay. There were too many variables if the child woke up. She couldn’t rest easy leaving Hubert alone with him. She had to get the item and return quickly.
“Wait for me!”
She pushed aside the garbage covering and slipped out, heading for the address Trina had given.
Hubert held the small bundle, muttering, “Mommy, you have to come back safe…”
Tatiana ran, hiding and dodging, and made it to the junkyard without incident. She searched until she finally found the corresponding number.
“Mound 14… This is it.”
She picked up a broken shovel from the ground and began to dig, not daring to slack off for a second in the overwhelming stench.
The shovel hit something hard with a scraping sound.
She immediately knelt, digging with her hands, and unearthed a tin box.
She had just let out a breath of relief when she heard footsteps.
“Someone saw a woman run this way! Spread out and look!”
A group of men surrounded the area.
They searched everywhere, their eyes fierce, exuding a murderous aura. They had clearly been given a direct order.

After searching, they found no trace.
Just as they were about to leave, one of them suddenly shouted, “Wait.”
He walked forward, squatted down, and grabbed a handful of dirt. The color of this spot was clearly different from the mud next to it, as if the lower soil had been turned over.
He looked around, noticing a rotten, large refrigerator right in front of him. A piece of clothing stuck out from the edge of the refrigerator lid.
He gave a savage grin, approached slowly, and yanked open the lid. “Right h-”
His voice stopped.
There was no one inside.
“Don’t waste time! Keep looking!”
The men left quickly.
They didn’t know that behind the refrigerator, inside a rotten old box, a pale–faced Tatiana was hiding.
She remained frozen in place for a long time. Only when she was sure there were no more sounds did she carefully climb out of the box and head back toward Hubert.
But when she arrived, she saw only the torn–apart shelter and a complete mess inside.
There was no sign of Hubert or the baby.
Her breath hitched, and she almost couldn’t stand.
“Mommy!”
A childish voice sounded from behind her. She whipped around and saw Hubert hiding behind a trash bin, holding the baby.
“Hubert!”
She rushed over, hugging him tightly. The empty hole in her heart was finally filled.
The tide of fear from moments ago gradually receded.
“Mommy, they found this place. I spotted them early, so I grabbed the baby and hid. The baby was very good and didn’t cry. Look!”

Hubert held up the small bundle as if presenting a treasure.

He pulled back the blanket, revealing a tiny face underneath, which was actually smiling at
Tatiana.
Her heart softened. “You did a great job.”
“Mommy, let’s go, quick. I found another good place to hide. Those men will be back.”
“Okay.”
She followed Hubert, winding through the area, until they reached the slums.
As far as she could see, it was all dilapidated buildings, most without even a complete exterior. Tattered tent roofs were set up, and it was crowded and bustling with people.
