Chapter 342 An Outbreak
Alita glanced around and grew even more disappointed. The people here were indeed all half–dead with weakness.
But Tatiana noticed something else. Most of these people were just ordinarily weak, but a few had abnormally swollen faces and cloudy eyes, looking diseased.
She was a little worried and studied those people for a few extra moments.
Alita counted. Including her and Dr. Tatiana, there were nine of their own people. Five were missing.
Those five were likely dead.
Their own group of nine could also die at any time.
After all, it was normal for cargo to be damaged during transport. They couldn’t expect the pirates to have a conscience and provide for them.
Sure enough, they only got one meal a day. And it was less a meal and more… slop.
A bowl of watery gruel and a piece of moldy black bread.
Stirring it revealed a lot of food scraps, probably leftovers from the pirates mixed in to “enhance” their meal.
Tatiana really couldn’t eat it. She gave her portion of gruel to someone else, eating only part of the bread herself.
Alita was very worried. “Aren’t you hungry?”
“I’m full.”
“Here, take my bread.”
The others also offered their bread, holding nothing back.
In all their hearts, Dr. Tatiana was the most important. Her safety had to be ensured.
They were simple and sincere. Not clever, perhaps, but loyal, and they had taken the chieftain’s words to heart.
Tatiana’s nose tingled. She fought back the feeling and shook her head. “No need, I’m really full. I don’t eat
much.”
Only after confirming she really wouldn’t eat did the others begin to eat.
People nearby laughed, scorning their behavior. “Still treating her so well? Brainless! It’ll bring misfortune!”
Alita had a temper and snapped back, “Are you a foreigner?”
“Of course I’m not!”

“Then why are you here? Did you bring misfortune on yourself?”
“You…”
Tatiana stood up and stopped Alita, pulling her back.
“Let me go, I’ll curse them out!”
“Shh, don’t go near them. Something is wrong with them.”
Alita registered this, gradually calmed down, and let Tatiana lead her away.
“What did you mean just now?”
“Look at their necks and arms.”
“Hiss… so disgusting! They’re covered in blisters!”
Tatiana’s expression was grave. “Yes. I suspect it’s a contagious disease.”
Alita’s face changed drastically. She almost shouted, “Con…”
Tatiana quickly clapped a hand over her mouth. “Shh!”
If she caused a panic, they would all be done for!
Alita slowly calmed down, and only then did Tatiana release her hand.
“Are you sure?”
“Eighty percent. Remind everyone to be careful of those people. Stay as far away as possible.”
“Okay!”
Alita quietly passed Tatiana’s words to their companions. No one doubted Dr. Tatiana. They all quietly moved further away, huddling together in the farthest corner.
Tatiana was still uneasy. The air in the hold was stagnant, and every breath carried a nauseating, rotten smell.
This kind of environment was a perfect breeding ground for disease.
Tatiana pulled a roll of bandages from her pocket, sprayed it with her remaining alcohol, and, using it sparingly, gave a piece to each person. She told them to tie it over their mouths and noses and not to remove it if possible.
Although this made it difficult to breathe, no one protested. They all obediently complied.
Next, Tatiana had them carefully distinguish between those who showed symptoms and those who didn’t, and the different degrees of symptoms.
After a day of observation, Tatiana compiled their reports, and the result was shocking.
“It’s spreading too fast…”

Chapter 342 An Outbreak
Finished
In just one day, the number of infected had tripled. And the symptoms worsened quickly. The man who had provoked them yesterday was already lying down, barely moving. His exposed skin was covered in nauseating blisters.
She gritted her teeth and told them to stop observing. Don’t move. Stay put and don’t touch anyone.
Gradually, other people began to notice something was wrong.
“Why are you covered in blisters? Are you sick?!”
“And you, and you, and her! You all have blisters! Don’t come near me!”
A small commotion started. Most people were too numb to react, until someone screamed, “Someone’s dead!”
The crowd panicked, shoving away from the spot.
Tatiana took the chance to get a bit closer. She saw a man who had been leaning against a stone trough slumped on the ground. His eyes were cloudy and yellow, and he wasn’t breathing.
The tattered blanket covering his body slowly slipped off, revealing skin covered in patches of blisters. At a glance, it looked like he had mutated.
Even a blind person could see something was wrong.
Now that someone had died, the fear truly set in. People pushed and shoved.
Alita yanked Tatiana back. “Don’t move! Stay in the middle!”
The youngest ones formed an outer ring, placing Tatiana and Alita in the center, forming a protective layer.
The chaos in the hold finally attracted the attention of those above. The hatch was thrown open, and two pirates came in, shouting, “Quiet! What’s all the noise! Shut up!”
