The thought looped relentlessly in Donnie’s mind, but more than the loss, he wanted to know who had sold him out. Without a mole, Lindsey could never have uncovered his secrets.
“Leave me. I need a moment of peace,” she said, her voice a cold dismissal.
Donnie had no choice but to stand and exit. The moment the door clicked shut behind him, h expression twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated rage.
Inside the room, Lindsey gazed out the window, her eyes clouded with disappointment. “Humanity is inherently wicked,” she whispered to the empty air. “Greed always wins in the end.”
The moment he left the hospital, Donnie barked an order to his men. “Get me the visitor logs for this wing. Now.”
“Yes, sir.”
When he saw the familiar name on the list, the pieces clicked into place. He let out a dark, humorless laugh and drove straight to a luxury apartment complex.
Emily opened the door, her confusion turning to sheer terror the moment she saw him. She tried to slam it shut, but Donnie’s hand was already a vice against the frame.
“What, no warm welcome for me?”
Emily’s face went bone–white. she forced a smile that looked more like a grimace. “What… what are you doing here? Is something wrong?”
“Everything is wrong.”
Donnie strolled in as if he owned the place, surveying the high–end decor with a calm that made her skin crawl. “Settling in well, I see?”
Emily nodded, her body trembling. “I am.”
“A luxury flat in the heart of the city, nearly 1,500 square feet, worth thirty million. Tell me, Emily, have I not been good to you?”
Emily realized the lethal edge beneath his words and couldn’t find her voice. Her silence was a confession.
Donnie’s facade of civility shattered. He lunged forward, his fingers clamping around her

throat like a steel trap, pinning her against the wall.
“I gave you too much,” he hissed. “It made you think you were more than you are.”
“I… I didn’t…” she wheezed, clawing at his hand as the world began to dim.

“You leaked it! Who gave you the courage to betray me? Without me, you’d still be a pathetic orphan sold off to some back–alley brothel!”
He only let go when her eyes began to roll back. She collapsed to the floor, gasping for air.
“Give me a reason not to kill you right now.”
Emily broke, her voice a frantic scream. “The house isn’t even mine! My name isn’t on the deed! And the money–the assets–Madam Lindsey took them all back! I have nothing left!”
She was hysterical. Over the past year, her access to Lindsey had dwindled until she felt like a forgotten relic. The power she once tasted was slipping through her fingers.
“You forgot the promises you made me! Don’t think I don’t know–you found that child long ago! You kept it from Madam Lindsey because you were afraid. You knew that if she came back, you’d never see a cent of that inheritance!”
That accusation hit Donnie like a physical blow.
His eyes flared with a predatory light. He stared at her for a long beat before grabbing her by the collar and dragging her toward the bedroom.
“No! No! I was wrong! I’m sorry! Please!”
Her screams were cut short as the door slammed shut.
Much later.
The bedroom door opened.
Donnie stepped out, adjusting his cufflinks with clinical precision. He glanced back at the room one last time. “Try another stunt like that, and you won’t survive the consequences. As for what you want, there are other ways to earn it. Only the useful deserve to thrive.”
Inside the room, Emily huddled in the corner, bruised and broken. The look she sent toward his retreating back was one of pure, concentrated venom.
After dealing with Emily, Donnie placed a tail on her to ensure she couldn’t sabotage him again. But her words had planted a new seed in his mind.
Since Lindsey already distrusted him, there was no going back to the way things were. He
