Chapter 388 The Light Returns

When Tatiana saw Ann and Hubert, she stood frozen for a long time, tears welling in the corners of her
eyes.
“Ann… Hubert…”
She reached out and pulled them into a fierce embrace.
The dead, hollow look in her eyes finally flickered with a spark of life.
Among the crowd. Dr. Lucas–the man who had sworn he would never contact Jasper–guiltily looked away. His primary mission was to ensure Tatiana’s survival. For that, he figured, an occasional lie was a forgivable sin.
With Ann and Hubert’s arrival, Tatiana became visibly more vibrant. She was no longer the deathly still, listless woman she had been. Every time they called out for their “Mommy,” her smiles grew more radiant.
Ann and Hubert seemed to have been given a specific mission of their own: they never mentioned “Daddy.”
And Tatiana never asked.
The two little ones quickly conquered the entire island with their adorable looks, mischievous streaks, and high emotional intelligence. Even Hanson, the former cold–blooded pirate king, couldn’t help but secretly stuff handfuls of his prized gold coins into their pockets.
As for the maternal Alita, she practically transformed into a full–time nanny. She spent her days taking them “hunting and gathering“-or rather, running wild through the jungle to experience the thrills of island life.
In just two short months, the children successfully shed their aristocratic polish. They became sun–baked and scruffy, sporting permanent grins that showed off rows of bright white teeth. It was a comical sight that made everyone smile.
Every time Tatiana saw her two sun–darkened children, she felt a mix of exasperation and amusement.
“Mommy, Mommy! I picked a ton of delicious fruit for you!”
Hubert came running toward her, his expensive designer clothes long since replaced by rugged, durable hemp shirts. He had even woven a flower crown for himself, which bobbed up and down on his head as he
ran.
He was heart–wrenchingly cute. Tatiana opened her arms and caught him.
“Thank you, Hubert. Did you get hurt?”
Hubert shook his head cheerfully. “I’m fine! Mr. Hanson was protecting me the whole time.”
“Where’s Ann?”
“She’s practicing combat with Sister Alita! Ha! Hu! Se! She looks so cool!” Hubert mimicked several punches with surprising form.

Tatiana couldn’t help but press a hand to her forehead. “I’d better go take a look.”

She took Hubert’s hand, and they walked out together to find her. They eventually found Ann at a high elevation, holding a horse stance. Ann was drenched in sweat, her face flushed red from the sun, and her small frame was trembling with effort. Yet, she maintained perfect form.
Even Alita, standing nearby, couldn’t find a single flaw.
Seeing Tatiana approach, Alita ran over. “Tati!”
“Have some water,” Tatiana said. “And some fruit. Hubert picked them. Do you want some?”
“Yes, please!” Alita turned and called out to the girl. “Ann! You can rest now! Your mommy and brother are here!”
The second her tension broke, Ann collapsed into a heap on the ground. She didn’t mind the fall; she simply patted the dirt off her seat and ran over with her sun–scorched face beaming.
“Mommy! Hubert!”
Hubert handed her a towel. “Here, wipe your face.”
“Thanks, Hubert!”
The two children were incredibly close, a bond that made Alita ache with envy. “I’m going to have two kids someday! A boy and a girl! It’ll be so lively.”
“First, you’d have to get married,” Tatiana noted.
On the island, twenty–one–year–old Alita was practically considered an old maid, yet there had been no news of a suitor. Countless men pursued her, but she didn’t have eyes for any of them.
Until recently, it seemed.
Sure enough, Alita said with a hint of shyness, “What do you think of Dr. Lucas?”
Tatiana had seen it coming. Alita, the wild tomboy, only attempted to act like a refined lady when Dr. Lucas was around, even softening her voice to a whisper. Everyone on the island knew–except perhaps Hanson, who was oblivious to everything.
“You like Dr. Lucas?”
Alita fidgeted for a moment but didn’t deny it.
Tatiana hesitated, choosing her words carefully. “Maybe you should observe him a bit longer.”
