Chapter 420 A Deal for First Place
The man nodded tremulously. “Yes, yes, yes… I fell on my own!”

The volunteer was skeptical; those were clearly injuries from a beating. “Don’t be afraid. Did he hit you?”
The man shook his head so hard it looked like a sieve, nearly in tears. “No, no, no! He didn’t touch me! I just tripped!”
Since the other participants had already surged ahead and there were no other witnesses, the matter was dropped. The volunteer had no choice but to help the “fallen” man withdraw from the race.
The two of them resumed their run. By now, they were lagging far behind the leading pack.
Tatiana shot him a glare. “Look what you’ve done!”
Jasper, however, kept the corners of his mouth tucked in. Knowing she had just covered for him made him feel inexplicably lighthearted. “My apologies. I’ll exercise more control next time.”
Tatiana was fuming. Since she couldn’t shake him off, she resigned herself to running alongside him. More importantly, she realized that bastard Lucas had vanished at some point! He had left her forced into a private run with Jasper.

In reality, the incredibly perceptive Lucas had sprinted ahead the moment Jasper appeared. A competent employee knows better than to disturb the boss’s private moments. He was nothing if not tactful.
However, after twenty–five kilometers, even the best physique starts to feel the strain. He was now sluggishly trailing at the back of the pack. If it weren’t for the embarrassment of quitting, he would have given up long
ago.
Just then, he heard a chorus of exclamations around him.
“Is that her?” “She’s not even human!” “How is this even possible?” “Damn. I want to know if her body is built differently from ours!”
He looked up toward the commotion and saw Tammy humming a tune, leisurely running backward.
Yes, backward.
While everyone else struggled forward, she was retreating–and doing so with total ease. As she was about to glide past him, he reached out and grabbed her.
Tammy turned around, looking fierce. “Which bastard dares to grab–oh? Dr. Lucas? It’s you!” Her expression instantly shifted from murderous rage to sweet and adorable,
Lucas, long accustomed to her mood swings, asked, “Why aren’t you running toward the finish line? Why are you going the wrong way?”
“I already visited the finish line! I came back specifically to find you guys!”
He struggled to process that. What did she mean, she “visited” the finish line? “You already finished the
race?”

Tammy nodded and gestured with her hands. “There were a lot of people at the finish line and a ribbon in the way. It was boring, so I came back for you. I’ve been looking for a while; I’ve looped back and forth a few times already.”
Lucas’s lip twitched. He understood now. This monster had finished the race and run back. While they were struggling through thirty kilometers, she had run the distance several times over. Is she even human?
Lucas felt the air leave his lungs and nearly stumbled. Tammy caught him quickly. “Are you okay? Can’t run anymore? Your stamina is terrible.” Her tone was full of complaints and a hint of disdain.
Lucas took a deep breath. “I’m fine. Don’t go looking for Tatiana. She’s safe right now.”
“Why not?”
To prevent her from interfering, Lucas lied: “The doctor said she has to complete the entire course independently. Don’t disturb her.”
“But…”
Seeing her hesitation, Lucas added more weight, leaning his entire body against her. “I have no strength left. Help me out.”
Tammy’s cheeks flushed a bright red, and she became suddenly bashful. “Oh, you’re so fragile. Fine, lean on me. I’ll carry you along.”
For the sake of his boss’s love life, Lucas gritted his teeth and played the part of the weakling. But as they moved, he realized being taxied along wasn’t actually so bad.
Meanwhile, at the rear.
Tatiana and Jasper were running slowly. There were only three kilometers left to the finish line, but they were a massive distance behind the leaders.
Looking at the man sticking to her side, Tatiana felt a surge of irritability. He wouldn’t leave, no matter how much she ignored him. Curiously, because of this annoyance, her headache had actually faded significantly.
Finally, she spoke. “Hey.”
Jasper looked up. “Yes?”
“Go run ahead.”
“My stamina isn’t that great.”
“…” As if anyone would believe that!
“Go win first place. Get the prize money.”
“Why?”
