No amount of money was worth dying for.

As he watched his men hesitate, Max didn’t waste words; he drew his pistol and executed several of them on the spot.
“Anyone who doesn’t move gets a bullet! You cowards! You useless trash! Get in there now!”
With the threat of immediate death hanging over them, the subordinates had no choice but to charge into the inferno. But it was too late. The warehouse was fully engulfed. At a staggering cost of lives, they managed to salvage only a few crates of product.
The rest was gone, incinerated.
His manpower had been gutted; more than half his men were dead from the toxic fumes. Only then did Max realize the futility of it and order the survivors back. He stood there, watching his empire burn, while the bodies of his own men littered the ground around him.
“Who was guarding the perimeter?”
The survivors looked at one another; no one dared to speak.
“Boss… everyone guarding the warehouse is dead. They were the closest to the blast.”
“Count the losses!”
When the tally came back, Max coughed up a spray of thick, dark blood. Out of one hundred and twenty crates of product, only eight remained. Over thirty men were dead. Following the seizure of his main base, this second hammer blow completely crushed him.
With his men decimated and his inventory gone, there was no way to rebuild. Worse, he was no longer a king; he was prey.
“Dad! What happened? Why is everything on fire?”
Ginnie arrived, clutching her heavy skirts, her face pale with terror at the carnage. Max forced himself to maintain some semblance of composure. “Ginnie, where is Tywin? Find him! We’re leaving right now!”
If they took what was left and vanished immediately to find a safe haven, there was still a sliver of hope. The priority was making sure no one found out how weak they had become.
“Get Tywin here, now!”
Ginnie looked confused. “Tywin isn’t here? I thought he ran this way! People said they saw him heading for the back!”
“Impossible. I haven’t seen-”
Max stopped mid–sentence as a sickening realization took root.
“Find Tywin! Find him this instant!”

“Dad!”

Max swung his hand and delivered a brutal slap to Ginnie’s face. “This is the ‘good man‘ you found! He betrayed us! You useless brat!”
Ginnie clutched her stinging cheek, her voice trembling. “Dad, he wouldn’t. He said he was going to marry me. He wouldn’t betray me.”
“Fool! You’re all fools!”
Max stopped caring about Tywin. He began barking orders to load the remaining crates into the vehicles to flee. But this time, his orders went unheeded. The subordinates who were once loyal and obedient now looked at him with eyes devoid of respect.
They looked at him with greed.
A tiger that has lost its claws and teeth no longer commands fear; it only invites the scavengers. The law of the jungle was cruel. When the men surrounded Max, he tried to resist, but he was cut down in a hail of gunfire.
As he collapsed, riddled with bullets in front of Ginnie, she screamed and threw herself over him. “Dad!! Daddy!”
She held his blood–soaked body, wailing into the smoke. “Tywin! Tywin, where are you? Tywin!”
She scanned the crowd, looking for a savior. She saw faces twisted with malice and eyes burning with predatory intent. But the one man she knew was nowhere to be found.
Despair took hold.
