Chapter 453 Tides of the Heart
Jasper pulled her to her feet. “Someone is approaching. We need to evacuate.”
Every sleeper was awake within a minute. They grabbed their essentials, tossed them into the vehicles, and sped away.
Only then did Tammy speak up. “I saw them. They’re armed and they have hounds. They reek of blood–they must have killed many people already. They were about three kilometers out.”
Tatiana relayed the intelligence to Jasper’s vehicle.
Norman let out a string of curses. “Is she for real? She can detect movement three kilometers away?”
“Tammy’s senses are extraordinarily sharp,” Tatiana replied. “Ten times higher than an average person’s.”
“Impressive.”
Not long after they vanished, their former campsite was surrounded. The pursuers were baffled -how had they been detected?
The lead commander’s face was grim. “Track them! Do not let them escape! They must die in these woods!”
They relied on their hounds, clinging to the trail like leeches. Tammy, who had an instinctive, predator–like aversion to the hounds, sensed them closing in.
“They’re still behind us.”
Tatiana thought for a moment. “Relentless… stop the cars!”
The convoy screeched to a halt.
“Everyone, take off your outer layers!”
When the hounds finally caught up, they began to scatter in confusion, baying in several different directions.
“What’s happening? Did they split up?”
“Even better! We’ll hunt them down one by one!”
The pursuers grew excited, dividing into smaller teams to begin the slaughter. It was a fatal
mistake.

When the men finally reached the source of the scent only to find a pile of discarded clothing, their hearts sank. A sense of foreboding washed over them.
“Retreat!”
It was too late. The moment they moved, they became targets.
A hail of bullets tore through the gaps in the foliage. They had walked right into the trap. Tatiana and her team had never intended to simply run. Instead of being hunted like cowards, they chose to counter–attack.
If they were outnumbered, they would play the long game. Guerrilla warfare. They broke the enemy apart and picked them off piece by piece.
In this dense jungle, the pursuers were no match for someone like Tammy. By utilizing the terrain and setting unpredictable traps, they lured the enemy into exposed positions before opening fire with heavy weaponry.
Using these tactics, they managed to decimate and drive back a force several times their size.
However, Jasper was hit.
He had taken a stray bullet intended for Tatiana, the round striking him near the heart and lungs. The local medical facilities were non–existent, so Tatiana had to personally extract the bullet, fighting to keep him alive.
Even then, without proper antibiotics, he was still on the verge of death. Fortunately, the extraction helicopters finally arrived, and they were finally brought home.
Bellwood.
Dr. Lucas was waiting. The helicopter landed directly on the hospital rooftop, and the medical team immediately rushed Jasper into surgery. Tatiana followed them the entire way, standing guard until the doctors confirmed he was finally out of critical danger.
“You should go back and rest for a while,” a doctor advised. “Mr. Jackson’s condition has stabilized. He’ll be conscious soon, and I’ll notify you the second he wakes,”
She didn’t move. Her gaze remained fixed on the man lying behind the glass of the ICU.
Lucas approached from behind, offering a solemn guarantee. “Mr. Jasper will be fine. He’ll wake up very soon.”
Her expression softened slightly, but she remained firm. “I’ll wait until he wakes up. A little more time won’t hurt.”

D
+5 Pearls Lucas noticed that her attitude toward Jasper had shifted significantly since her return from the mission.
“Mommy!”
A high–pitched, childish voice interrupted their conversation. It was Lindsey, arriving with Ann and Hubert. The two little ones caught sight of their mother and sprinted toward her.
Tatiana knelt down, opening her arms to catch them as they slammed into her for a massive hug.
“Mommy! Waaaaa…”
The children rarely cried these days, but seeing her now, the floodgates opened. They sobbed uncontrollably, and no amount of soothing seemed to help.
Lindsey wiped the corner of her eye. “They’ve been so worried about both of you. I’m just glad you’re all home.”
Tatiana’s heart ached. “Don’t cry, babies. Your mommy isn’t dead…”
Two small hands instantly flew up to cover her mouth. “Mommy! Don’t they cried in unison.
you dare
say that word!”
Her eyes crinkled with a genuine smile. The children stopped wailing but continued to cling to her tightly. After a while, they managed to compose themselves.
