“As if you even had to say it.”

He couldn’t help but chuckle at her bluntness.

“Next time, then.”

“Deal.”

The two little ones immediately scurried over with towels in hand. “Mommy, wipe your sweat!”

“Mommy, you were amazing!”

“Mommy, you have to teach us how to play like that!”

Even though Jasper was the one who actually won, the children completely bypassed him, sticking to their mother like glue and pouring out compliments as if they were going out of style.

The praise left Tatiana beaming with delight.

Jasper stood back with a smile, watching them. The setting sun cast a warm, golden glow over the scene, enveloping the family in a layer of cozy tranquility. He cherished this moment of peace, wishing he could freeze time forever right then and there.

Tatiana turned and said casually, “Staying for dinner? Since I lost today, I’ll cook.”

His eyes lit up with a clear, bright joy. “I’d love to stay.”

“Then you’re on dishes.”

“Done.”

Satisfied with the arrangement, she turned and headed inside to shower before starting on the meal. She only graced the kitchen with her presence when she was in an exceptionally good mood.

He watched her retreating back, his heart feeling as though it were overflowing with happiness.

Hubert seized the opportunity to give his father’s leg a sharp kick. “Daddy, snap out of it! You look like a total creep right now. Get it together!”

Jasper arched an eyebrow and scooped the boy up. “What did you just say?”

Hubert coughed twice, backpedaling instantly. “Nothing! You misheard me, Daddy!”

Ann looked up at him with a serious little face. “Daddy, Mommy is very happy today.”

“Hmm?”

“I saw her smile. That means she doesn’t hate you. Keep going, Daddy!” Ann gave him a little “fighting” gesture of encouragement.

Jasper nodded solemnly. “I will.”

This was a hard–won chance to start over, and he cherished it more than anyone.

Tammy was ecstatic when she received the call from Lucas. The fact that he was the one taking the initiative to invite her out for a meal made her agree without a second thought. This was a rare invitation from Dr. Lucas, and she treated it with the utmost importance.

She even went to find Tatiana for help.

“Will you come help me pick out some clothes?”

“Oh? Do you have a date?”

A hint of self–consciousness flickered across Tammy’s cheeks. “Cough… well, sort of.”

“Dr. Lucas invited you?”

Tammy’s eyes widened. “How do you know everything?”

“Because you’re too easy to read.” Everything she felt was written plainly on her face.

“Ugh, fine! Dr. Lucas asked me to dinner tomorrow. I want to dress up and blow his mind!”

Tatiana arched an eyebrow. “He invited you? Just you?”

“Mhm!”

In Tatiana’s eyes, Tammy was indeed wonderful–blunt, principled, warm–hearted, and fiercely loyal. She didn’t want anyone to hurt someone as pure as Tammy, not even Lucas.

Previously, when Tammy was relentlessly pursuing Lucas, Tatiana hadn’t entirely approved. It wasn’t that Lucas was a bad person, but he wasn’t transparent enough; Tammy was no match for his manipulative nature.

She didn’t air her concerns. “Let’s go then. I’ll help you choose.”
