Chapter 535 The Trap
“Let’s go.”

They had nowhere left to hide. They grabbed the kids and sprinted for the falls. Behind the curtain of water, they found a hidden trail. But when they reached the end, they hit a solid iron door.
A door out here? Tatiana felt her stomach drop.
“Something is wrong. We need to leave.”
Jasper shook his head. “We can’t. They’re right behind us. Our only choice is in.”
He set Hubert down and used his hunting knife to jemmy the rusted door open. The flashlight hit a scen that took their breath away: piles of ivory, hundreds of leopard skins, and a diesel generator hooked up to a row of freezers.
The freezers were packed with bags labeled with organs, rhino horns, and pangolin scales. This was the poachers‘ main warehouse. They had walked right into the middle of the operation.
“Jasper, look!”
Tatiana found a satellite phone.
“Does it work?”
Hubert raised his hand, “Mommy, let me try!”
The kid went to work, fingers flying over the buttons. After a second of static, a voice came through.
Jasper grabbed it. “Requesting immediate backup!”
“Report your position! We’re moving out now!”
“Southeast, behind the waterfall…”
Ann grabbed her dad’s shirt, her face pale. “Daddy, someone’s coming!”
The sound of a truck engine dying echoed outside. Jasper killed the flashlight. “This is the poachers‘ warehouse. They’re back. Get here now!”
He cut the call, grabbed the kids, and shoved them into an empty freezer unit.
“Stay down. Don’t come out.”
The lock on the door shattered under a hail of bullets. Marcus’s voice boomed into the cave. “Mr. Jasper!
Let’s settle this!”
They were trapped. Marcus walked in with a grin, leveling a shotgun and looking around.
“I’ve been looking for you for a long time, Mr. Jasper. You’re good at hiding.”
Must be rough out here, huh? Running around with a wife and kids. They’re suffering because of you,
“Why don’t you come out so we can talk?”

There was no talking. He wanted them dead. But this was a warehouse full of expensive stock. If anything got trashed, Icarus would have his head, even if they were half–brothers.
“Come out and I promise no one gets hurt.”
Marcus spotted a shadow in the corner. His grin got wider as he moved closer.
“Gotcha, Mr. Jasper!”
He lunged, but it wasn’t a person. It was just a coat propped up on a rack to look like a body in the dark.
A voice came from behind him. “Now!”
