Even in Darkness, She Chose to Rise
Chapter 549 A Meaningless Title
Ann blinked like she was thinking. Tatiana didn’t rush her. She just waited.
“Mommy, I want to find a reason for being here.”
“What do you mean?”
Finished
“Like you. You have things you want to do. And like Daddy. He has goals, and he’ll do anything to get them.”
“…Sweetie, maybe don’t say that last part in front of him.”
Ann gave a small smile.
Tatiana got it. Both Ann and Hubert were way too smart for their own good. They learned everything so fast that nothing was a challenge. Hubert had hobbies, but Ann was different. Maybe it was the Asperger’s, but she usually just stayed quiet and kept everything inside.
“Mommy, I want to see the world. I want to feel things. Can I go to this school? Please?”
When those big eyes looked at her, Tatiana couldn’t say no. Her heart gave in.
“Of course you can.”
“Really? Thanks, Mommy!”
Ann hugged her tight and leaned into her. “I love you!”
Tatiana held her back. “I love you too.”
Tammy walked by and saw them. It made her feel a weird kind of soft. Kids seemed great. Small, sweet, and always calling for their mom.
When am I going to have one?
She wondered what her kid would even look like. She felt a little bit of hope, then a lot of gloom. She sighed and walked out toward the forest.
She was feeling restless and wandered pretty far. She looked up and saw a horse going crazy, rearing up and charging. A few people nearby were screaming and trying to get away.
Tammy’s eyes went sharp. She ran right at them.
“Get back! He’s in heat! Don’t go near him!”

A horse in that state would kill anything. One kick would crush your ribs. These people were being idiots.
She moved like a flash, grabbed the mane, and jumped on. The horse tried to throw her, but she stayed on and made low noises in her throat.
The horse started to calm down. Tammy patted its head. “Good boy.”
The people watching were stunned.
“That was insane!”
“She actually stopped a wild horse!”
Tammy hopped off and looked at them. She tried the local language. “What are you doing?”
A guy with tan skin stepped up. “His foot is messed up. If we don’t fix it, it’ll get infected and he’ll die. We were trying to help.”
Tammy looked down. He was right. The horse was limping. If it stayed like that, it was dead.
Tammy felt better. Tatiana had warned her about poachers around here, and she’d thought these were the bad
Wait.
guys.
She had already hit her emergency tracker. The signal was out.
A second later, a car roared up. The jeep kicked up sand and slammed to a stop.
Tatiana jumped out. “Tammy! You okay?”
Tammy looked embarrassed. “I’m fine. It was a mistake…”
“Tati?”
The guy’s voice was full of shock.
Tatiana turned around. When she saw him, she froze. She looked like she didn’t believe it.
“Tati, is it you?”
She didn’t answer at first. Finally, she nodded.
“Xavier.”
It was him. Her old brother. She hadn’t seen him in years.
