It finally clicked. Whenever things got messy with the Cole family, he had used boxing as an excuse to slip away and handle it.

She had known the whole time.

That was the breaking point. Tammy dropped the ugly plushie and went at him again.

She didn’t slow down. She swung her leg even harder. “Better to break it now so you can’t cause any more trouble!”

He barely jumped out of the way. “You’re heartless!”

Norman ended up covered in bruises, but he finally got the story out of her.

It was that damn phone call from the other night.
