A rhythmic, heavy thumping of rotors echoed from the horizon, growing louder as it drew near. A sleek black helicopter cut through the clouds, heading straight for the top of the tower.

Tammy looked up, a genuine, relaxed smile finally spreading across her face.

The helicopter’s rotors kicked up a massive downdraft as it touched down on the platform. The cabin door slid open, and Tatiana hopped out. She looked sharp in a flight jacket, and her eyes locked onto Tammy immediately.

The two of them shared a tight hug.

“Tatiana!”

Tammy’s voice cracked. She was excited, but there was a hint of lingering fear in her tone.

“It is over, Tammy. I am here.”

Tatiana patted her back, her steady voice instantly calming. She scanned the platform and noticed Norman sitting motionless on the ground nearby. Her brows shot up in surprise.

Tatiana nearly laughed.

She figured something had gone down between them and Norman had clearly lost. She did not push for details. She trusted Tammy, and they had plenty of time to talk later. Right now, they just needed to leave.

“Let’s go. We are going home.”

Tammy felt a wave of warmth. Her eyes grew hot with tears of relief.

“Home. We are going home! I finally get to go home!”

Tatiana smiled and helped her onto the helicopter. Norman watched the entire time. He did not try to stop them or say a word. He just stayed silent.

Tatiana thought of something and walked over to him.

Norman looked up at her but did not respond. His eyes were full of doubt.

He had talked big earlier about helping her, but she had not needed him at all.

“Thanks.”

Tatiana gave a distracted reply and turned away. As the helicopter lifted off and drifted into the distance, Norman kept watching, his eyes vacant and lost in thought.

“Tammy, snap out of it.”

Tammy awkwardly pulled her gaze away from the window. “I was not looking at anything.”

“Really?”

“Really…”

“Tell me, how have you been these past few days?”

Tammy felt wronged, but she could not honestly say her time was terrible. The person who had it worse was Norman. She had been fed well while locked in the tower. Whenever she got annoyed, they fought, and he never dared to hit her back. There were a few times she had been so angry she had lost control of her strength.

Thinking about it now made her feel a little guilty. Not that she would ever admit it.

Tatiana saw her expression and knew the answer. She did not know whether to laugh or cry. “I am just glad you are okay.”
