Chuck smiled. “What kind of villain spends a hundred million on a good deed? Judge her by what she does, not what you think she’s plotting.”

Madam Ambrosia realized he was right. “I guess I was overthinking it. So, do you think I should actually get close to her?”

She usually deferred to her husband’s judgment on people.

Chuck kept it brief. “Keep her close. Just watch your back.”

Madam Ambrosia took the hint.

She sent out a third invitation, and this time, Tatiana accepted.

They met at the stables. Madam Ambrosia rode whenever she had the time and even kept her own horse at the club.

Tatiana showed up in riding gear and walked over with a smile. “Madam Ambrosia.”

“You look great today.”

“Not even close to you.”

“I’m old. Don’t lay it on too thick.”

Tatiana saw the older woman’s eyes light up, so she kept the compliments coming. She kept it subtle enough to sound sincere.

Every woman likes a bit of flattery.

She quickly shifted the topic to the charity foundation, asking for advice and letting Madam Ambrosia do most of the talking.

It worked. Whatever awkwardness was left between them vanished, and before long, they were talking like old friends.

Even Madam Ambrosia had to admit that Tatiana was smart, poised, and genuinely good company.

After a quick warm-up, they went to pick their horses.

Madam Ambrosia was worried Tatiana couldn’t handle herself. “They have instructors here. You can let one of them lead you for a lap.”

“I’m fine. I know how to ride.”

Tatiana mounted her horse in one smooth motion. She tugged the reins, and the horse reared back slightly, letting out a loud whinny.

She looked incredible on horseback.

Chapter 587 The Man in the High Window

A group of guys watching from the second-floor lounge definitely noticed.

“Check out that girl. Not bad.”

“Where?”

“The one on Coal.”

“Damn, you’re right.”

“Wait, isn’t that Liam’s horse? That thing is a beast. He doesn’t let anyone near it.”

“It really is Liam’s!”

One of them nudged the guy sleeping on the sofa.

“Liam, wake up. Someone’s riding your horse.”

Liam Langstrom opened his eyes. “Who?”

“Some girl. A really hot one.”

Liam stood up and walked to the window. He was tall. His shadow made the other guys look small.

He narrowed his eyes, watching her ride.

The sun was hitting her just right, making her look like she was glowing.

“Who is she?”

“No idea,” they chimed in. “Never seen her here before. Maybe she’s new.”

“That’s Madam Ambrosia with her. If she’s in that circle, she’s not a nobody. Weird we haven’t met her.”

“With looks like that, you wouldn’t forget her.”

One of his friends leaned in. “Want me to go find out who she is, Liam?”

Everyone knew Liam had just finalized his divorce and was in a bad mood. As his friends, they figured they should help him find a new distraction.

Liam didn’t say no. He just grunted and kept watching her through the glass.

Tatiana felt eyes on her and looked up, but the glare on the window was too strong to see inside. She didn’t

care.

After a few laps, she was starting to sweat. Madam Ambrosia was impressed.

“I didn’t know you could ride like that.”

“Madam Ambrosia, please just call me Tatiana. Ms. Tatiana is too formal. If you don’t mind, I’ll just call you

Ambrosia.”

Madam Ambrosia was much older, but she looked like she was in her early forties. The casual name didn’t feel weird.

“Of course. You should come riding with me more often. I can never find anyone to go with. All the other ladies are too scared of falling.”

“As long as you’re not tired of me.”

“I’m getting old. My stamina isn’t what it used to be. I’ll just trot for a bit. You go ahead and have fun. Don’t feel like you have to stick with me.”

Tatiana wasn’t done yet, so she nodded and took off at a full gallop.

Ambrosia watched her go and sighed. If only I had a son. They’d be perfect together. What a waste…

After a few meetings, Ambrosia was genuinely starting to like the girl. She just wished she had a son to hook her up with.

She and Chuck had a child years ago, but they lost it, and she couldn’t have any more.

Chuck had stayed with her regardless. They’d spent their lives together, and she had poured all her maternal energy into her charity work.

But if Tatiana is this worried about the Jacksons, does she have something going on with Harpie?

Thinking about Harpie’s reputation, Ambrosia’s mood cooled. She muttered to herself, “Everything about her is great, except her taste in men.”

Tatiana had finished a lap and was slowing down when she heard hooves thundering behind her.

She looked back. A man on a big brown horse was charging toward her.

He was tall, good-looking, and his eyes were full of a challenge.
