Even in Darkness, She Chose to Rise

Chapter 683 Deep Hatred Between Father & Son

Liam said humbly, “I learned from you.”

“The future of the Langstrom family rests on you.”

Jack’s tone carried a hint of relief.

Maybe because he was approaching retirement, he’d shown Liam more care lately. His usua sparing praise had increased.

“Father, I’ll still need your guidance.”

Jack was even more pleased. Humble, not arrogant-a worthy son.

“Alright. Get some rest.”

“Yes.”

Liam turned to leave.

Jack suddenly called him back, “Liam, have you ever blamed me?”

“Why are you asking, Father?”

“For what happened when you were a child. Did you ever hate me?”

Liam smiled, “Father, it’s in the past. No need to bring it up. I understand your intentions. I don’t dwell on the past. The future is what matters.”

Jack studied his expression carefully. Seeing nothing unusual, he let him go.

Liam went back to his room. He closed the door and stood there in the dark.

He covered his mouth with one hand and let out a laugh he couldn’t hold back.

It was a twisted, terrifying sound.

“So even you get scared when you’re old.”

At an abandoned port.

A luxury yacht sat docked.

Patrols every ten meters. Checkpoints every fifty.

himself.

But for this deal, he’d come in person.

He held Manna in his arms, a cigar between his teeth, grinning like he was in a great mood.

Thinking that after today he’d secure a major shipping route, he couldn’t stop smiling.

Soon, an off-road vehicle pulled up outside.

Norman got out. He squinted at the checkpoints ahead.

His men came forward to frisk him, making sure he had no weapons.

Norman raised his arms and let them search. Once they confirmed he was clean, they let him through. He boarded the yacht.

Todd greeted him dramatically, “Mr. Cole, long time no see.”

He spoke fluent English-all thanks to Norman.

Norman didn’t bother with pleasantries, “Where is she?”

“So eager? That woman must be really special to you.”

“Cut the crap. Where is she?”

“How about you look up?”

Norman looked up and froze.

There was a person suspended from the ceiling.

She was covered in blood, barely alive, swaying above the water. A heavy stone was tied to her legs.

If the rope broke, she’d drop straight into the sea and get dragged down by the weight.

If you looked closely, her arms were bent at unnatural angles-clearly broken.

Even knowing it was fake, Norman’s heart still skipped a beat at the sight.

Todd was pleased with his reaction, “See? I told you she was alive.”

“You didn’t have to do this to her.”

Todd kissed Manna hard and said casually, “Norman, let’s get down to business.”

Norman’s eyes went cold, “Cut her down first.”

Todd shook his head, “Wrong. You seem to have it backwards. The reality is, you’re trying to save your woman. If you don’t give me the route, I can find another way. But your girl won’t be so lucky.”

Norman sneered, “If something happens to her, do you think you’ll walk out of here alive?”

“You mean your men outside?”

Todd picked up a remote and pressed a button.

The screen displayed the people being held aboard the ship.

They were bound hand and foot, looking like captives.

Norman’s face changed. The shift was so real Todd burst out laughing.

“Your backup’s not coming. But all of mine are here.”

Gunfire.
