He looked at Britney and sighed. “I always thought Aaron and you would end up together. I prepared this transfer agreement ages ago, just waiting for the day you married into the Galloway family so I could hand it to you myself.”

“What a pity. It just wasn’t meant to be. Grandpa just wanted to give you something as a little compensation. If you won’t accept it, how am I supposed to live with myself?”

As Henry spoke, his eyes grew red again.

Britney paused mid-bite as she listened to him.

‘So Henry had this transfer agreement ready ages ago. Did Aaron ever really care about me, or was it all just for the shares?’ Britney wondered.

Now she finally understood why Gavin had taken over Santos Group the way he did.

Since Henry was so fond of her, there’s no way the Galloway family didn’t know about this share transfer agreement.

They wanted Aaron to marry her so they could get their hands on Henry’s shares through her.

But Gavin didn’t dare swallow up Santos Group while Henry was still alive. Even though he managed to take over Galloway Group from Henry, the old man still held real authority.

As far as Britney knew, Henry had the power to veto any major decisions at Galloway Group.

If Aaron had married her, all he had to do was sweet-talk her into merging Santos Group into Galloway Group herself, and it would have been easy to justify everything to Henry.

Gavin’s scheme was truly cunning.

If Britney hadn’t sensed something was off back then and dug into the Galloway family’s motives, she probably would have fallen for their scheme.

Britney looked at Lorenzo. “I really can’t accept it. I know you mean well, but I have to say no.”

Now that she saw through Gavin’s scheme, there was absolutely no way she’d ever take any shares from Galloway Group.

Seeing how determined she was, Lorenzo could only respect her choice.

Throughout the meal, Britney did her best to avoid any talk about the Santos and Galloway families, keeping the conversation with Lorenzo focused on everyday stuff and small alk.

Lorenzo could see right through her, and he ate in silence, feeling a knot in his chest.

But what really got to him was how let down he felt by his own son and grandson.

The more Lorenzo dwelled on it, the more his anger simmered.

By the time the meal was over, he felt like the food just wouldn’t it right.

After the meal, Lorenzo left Moonview Restaurant, his mind hey with worries.

Just as Britney was about to head home, her phone rang. It was nine.

“Hey, sweetie, where are you right now?” Janine asked, her voice soft and cute.

Hearing that soft, adorable voice. Britney told her she was at Monview Restaurant.

Janine replied, “Wait for me, I’m coming over. I’m actually nearly, just finishing up with a client tonight.”

Before Britney could even respond, Janine had already hung up

Britney just waited quietly by the entrance.

In less than ten minutes, Janine was right there in front of her.

She rocked a crisp white shirt, black dress pants, and a pair of cute little heels.

She totally looked like she meant business.

As soon as she spotted Britney, Janine draped herself over her shoulder. “My baby, let me hug you. I’m dead tired.”

Britney just let her cling on, her smile full of affection. “Aw, you’ve had a long day.”

She soothed Janine with a gentle pat on the back, her voice soft and comforting.

Janine straightened up and said, “Wanna grab a drink with me?”

“Sure,” Britney nodded.

She could tell Janine was feeling a bit down tonight.

They each drove over separately to Fittro.

Back in their usual private room, Janine grabbed some of Fredrick’s top-shelf stash he kept there and started knocking back drinks without saying a word.

Britney just hung out with her, quietly keeping her company.

“Janine,” Britney spoke up, concern in her voice as she watched her down five shots back to back, trying to stop her.

With the way she was drinking, she was bound to get drunk soon

Janine met Britney’s worried gaze and managed a smile that looked even worse than crying. “It’s nothing, really. That bastard, Eden, just got married.”

Britney was stunned.

‘Eden got married?’ Britney thought, her mind reeling.

‘No wonder Janine’s in such a bad mood today, Britney realized.

Eden was Janine’s first love, well, technically, her ex now.

Back then, Janine went all out defying her family, clinging to Eden even though they were from totally different worlds. She nearly got herself disowned by the Pollard family for him.

But Eden’s family never liked the idea of Janine, the Pollard heiress, and behind her back, they kept trying to hook him up with other girls.

Janine had always been proud and a little spoiled, but for Eden, she forced herself to put up with it all.

But Eden’s mom just kept pushing, and in the end, she played the sick card to pressure Eden into dumping Janine.

And with the Pollard family doing everything they could to keep them apart, the two of them ended up splitting for good.

Britney saw with her own eyes just how much Janine was hurting back then.

That’s why, later on, Janine would rather partner up with someone and open her own practice than go back and work for her family.

Even now, Janine still hasn’t backed down to her parents.

Honestly, it hadn’t even been a year since they broke up, and no Eden was already married.

Britney tried a few times to say something comforting, but every time, the words just wouldn’t come out.

Seriously, how do you even comfort someone about this?’ Britney thought, feeling totally helpless.

Anyone with eyes could tell Janine was still hung up on Eden.

Since she couldn’t find the right words, Britney just drank with her, showing her support the only way she could.

Before long, the two of them were just sitting there in silence, krocking back drink after drink.

Every now and then, Janine would start cursing Eden out, and Britney would join in, throwing in a few insults of her own.

Before she knew it, Janine was throwing her arms around Britney, sobbing her heart out as she cursed Eden.

After she finally stopped crying, the booze really started to hit her.

Janine waved her hand dramatically. “Men are all jerks! It’s not like I can’t survive without Eden. There are millions of hotties out there. If I want, I could switch guys every single day. Men? Please, there’s plenty more where that came from.”

“Britney, listen, my brother’s bar is packed with drop-dead gorgeous guys. Mature bad boys, cute puppy types, whatever you want, they’ve got it. I’m gonna pick out a whole bunch and ride those eight-pack abs like a slide!”

With that, Janine stumbled to her feet and headed out of the room.

Britney tried to stop her, but she was already out the door.

Before long, Janine really showed up with a whole squad of ten male models trailing behind her.

Every single one of those male models was drop-dead gorgeous with broad shoulders, slim waists, and legs for days. Janine pulled a few of the baby-faced ones over to sit on either side of her.

If one looked closely, there was something about them that totally reminded you of Eden.

Britney just facepalmed, completely speechless. What was she even supposed to say to this?

Even drunk, Janine wasn’t causing any real trouble. She just had the two guys sit on either side of her, occasionally reaching out to pinch their cheeks or playfully poke their faces.

Janine waved at the rest of the guys, pointing at Britney. “Hey, don’t just stand there. My bestie needs some attention too! Come on, I’m loaded. As long as you two make sure my girl and have a blast tonight, I’m picking up the tab for all of you!”

Britney sprang to her feet, totally flustered as soon as she heard nine’s words.

She glanced nervously at the guys approaching her. “Guys, seriously, she’s wasted. Just ignore her, okay?”

But the guys just ignored Britney and made themselves comfort ble right next to her, acting like they hadn’t heard a thing

she said.
