Chapter 99

There wasn’t a single seafood dish on the table, and even the fru platter was missing grapes.

You could tell just how considerate the old man was from all these little details.

Britney took the initiative to start a conversation. “Mr. Galloway, how long are you planning to stay in Breim this time?”

Normally, Lorenzo would only come back for a day or two before heading back to the countryside to rest.

Britney figured this time would be no different.

Lorenzo smiled and replied, “I’m not planning to leave. After what that kid pulled behind my back, why would I go anywhere?”

After that day, Britney didn’t really bother to ask how Lorenzo handled things with Gavin and Aaron.

The only reason she knew Aaron had gotten a taste of the family’s discipline was because he showed up at her place that very night.

Britney stayed silent, just focusing on her meal. When it came to the Galloway family’s drama, it wasn’t her place to butt in.

Seeing

Brittney quietly eating, Lorenzo sighed. “I know all about the livestream mess. You really went through a lot, kid.”

Britney just shook her head. “I’m okay, really.”

She hadn’t told Lorenzo what part Sienna played in all of it.

But since he already knew so much, was that why he came to see her today?

It was obvious to Lorenzo that Britney wasn’t comfortable discussing this with him around.

So he simply dropped the topic.

“By the way,” Lorenzo pulled out a senior-friendly smartphone from his pocket and started pecking at the screen with his finger.

He held the phone at arm’s length, squinting a little. “I had my friend buy me a phone and got that messaging app set up. Let me add you as a contact. If anything comes up, just reach out to me directly. I’ll have your back.”

As he spoke, he kept tapping away at the screen.

Britney watched as Lorenzo fumbled with his phone, unable to open the app, so she put down her utensils and said, “Here, let me help.”

Lorenzo handed her the phone right away.

Britney opened the app and realized the account was literally jus set up. The username was “Lorenzo,” and there wasn’t a single contact in there.

Seriously, it couldn’t get any newer.

She took out her phone, sent him a friend request, and then use his phone to accept it for him.

“All set,” Britney said, handing the phone back to Lorenzo.

Lorenzo waved his hand. “Just save my contact as ‘Britney,’ okay

Old folks like me just can’t figure out all this young people’s stuff

If it weren’t for wanting to keep in touch with Britney, he’d be perfectly happy sticking to his old landline.

He told Britney, “Oh, and make sure to save your number too. It be easier for me to call you that way”

After Britney saved the nickname as requested, she opened up the contacts list and saw it was completely empty, just like the messaging app.

She added her own number, then gave herself a call from his phone to make sure it worked.

Britney let the call ring once, then hung up and grinned at Lorenzo. “All set,” she told him.

On her own phone, she added his contact and gave it a proper name.

Lorenzo grinned. “Britney, you’re always so patient with me. Now it’ll be way easier for this old man to get in touch with you whenever I need.”

Britney smiled at him. “Anytime you want to talk, just call me.”

She could genuinely feel how much Lorenzo cared about her.

“There’s one more thing. Could you sign this for me?” Lorenzo said, picking up a folder from the chair next to him.

Britney was caught off guard as she took it.

With Lorenzo watching her kindly, Britney opened the folder, and when she saw what was inside, her eyes widened in shock.

It was a Galloway Group share transfer document.

Lorenzo was about to hand over 8% of Galloway Group’s shares to her.

Britney immediately slid the folder back to Lorenzo, her voice flustered. “Mr. Galloway, you must be joking. There’s no way I can accept this.”

Not in her wildest dreams did she ever imagine Lorenzo would hand her a share transfer document.

Lorenzo fixed Britney with a serious look. “Britney, kiddo, hear me out. If it hadn’t been for your grandfather, the Galloway Group wouldn’t be what it is today. This is a debt our family owe yours.

“Back then, I asked Gavin to come up with that sum, but it was nothing compared to what your grandfather did for our family.

“Yet that kid went behind my back, used that money as leverage to take 5% of the Santos family’s shares, and pulled all those stunts without telling me.”

By the end, Lorenzo’s voice was trembling a little.

He’d wanted Gavin to help out the Santos family, no questions asked, because that was exactly how the Santos family helped

us back then.

Britney’s grandfather emptied out all his savings, sold off everytique he could get his hands on, and even personally vouched for the Galloway Group. He did everything just to save the company from going under.

If it hadn’t been for Britney’s grandfather, the Galloway Group would’ve been ripped apart and booted out of Breim in just the second year after Lorenzo took the reins.

Lorenzo could never forget that kindness, and he always insisted that Gavin and Aaron remember it too.

He never thought Gavin would actually dare to pull off such a brzen switcheroo behind his back.

All of this today was just Lorenzo’s way of repaying Britney for everything her family had done.

He’d already had a foundation set up in Britney’s name, and the whole thing was designed to benefit her and her alone.

Britney shook her head, refusing no matter what. “Mr. Galloway really can’t take this. It’s not right. Honestly, back when my grandpa was still around, he always said you were the one with real ability. He just helped out a little, that’s all. You’ve more than repaid that kindness over the years.”

Honestly, Britney didn’t really know much about the stuff that went down between the families back then. Her grandfather passed away from illness when she was just eight or nine, so she ever really learned all the details.

Before he died, the only thing he told Solomon was not to treat what he did back then as some huge favor, and to never let the Galloways feel like they owed them anything.

Solomon and Britney had always remembered that.

Now that Lorenzo was suddenly trying to give her a chunk of the company, Britney felt a wave of panic hit her. ‘I really can’t accept this… I don’t deserve it,’ she thought, guilt gnawing at her.

Lorenzo looked at Britney seriously. “What, you think 8% isn’t enough? If that’s the issue, I’ll bump it up for you.”

He hadn’t even finished his sentence before he was already pulling out his phone, ready to call his lawyer.

Britney hurried to stop him, sounding almost panicked. “That’s way too much, Mr. Galloway. I really can’t accept it. I’m not even part of your family. Holding shares in your company just doesn’t feel right at all.”

Sure, Lorenzo had always said in front of everyone that he hoped Britney would one day become part of the Galloway family, and that he’d pass his shares to her when that happened, but Britney had always thought he was just joking.

Especially now, with her relationship with the Galloways at an all-time low.

There was just no way she could accept those shares, not now, not ever.

Lorenzo’s move today genuinely shocked Britney. She hadn’t expected anything like this.

‘If I’d known, I wouldn’t have come out for this meal at all,’ Britney thought to herself.

When Britney called herself an outsider, Lorenzo’s eyes turned misty. “You have to take these shares, kiddo. Aaron owes you big time, and this is my way of making things right. Just accept i Don’t overthink it.”

“Guess we just weren’t blessed enough in the Galloway family. To let someone as amazing as you slip through our fingers… what a shame,” he said, voice thick with emotion.

As he spoke, Lorenzo sighed deeply, and honestly, he felt like winging Aaron’s neck right then and there.

Britney kept waving her hands, clearly flustered. “Mr. Galloway, you keep doing this, I’ll be too scared to see you again! I really can’t accept it, please. Don’t put me on the spot like this.”

Her words made Lorenzo huff in annoyance.

Even so, Britney stood her ground.
