Chapter 96
Chapter 96
“Britney, Fredrick called out.
Fredrick had appeared behind Aaron without him even realizing
When Aaron suddenly heard Fredrick’s voice, he thought to himself, ‘Did I just imagine that?’
But as Fredrick brushed past him, Aaron’s expression instantly sured.
How did Fredrick end up here?’ Aaron thought, his mind racing!
And what did he just call Britney?’ Aaron wondered, his jaw tightening.
‘Britney?’ Aaron’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Who the hell does he think he is, calling her that?’ Aaron fumed inwardly.
In just a split second, a million questions were racing through Aaron’s mind.

Fredrick walked right up to Britney, holding a pink thermal breakfast bag, and handed it to her. “Breakfast,” he said.
He didn’t even spare Aaron a glance, treating him like he was invisible.
Britney couldn’t help but notice how out of place that pink bag looked in Fredrick’s hands.
She’d been planning to order takeout once she got to the office, but clearly, Fredrick had already thought of everything.
“Thanks,” Britney said, taking the bag from him as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
Fredrick grinned at her. “Had to drop my car off for servicing late last night. Mind giving me a ride to the office?”
As he spoke, he checked his watch, looking a little rushed.
Britney waved the bag playfully. “Guess I can’t say no after you fed me. Consider it my way of saying thanks for breakfast.”
Seeing the two of them chatting away like Aaron didn’t even exist just made his blood boil even more.
These past few days, he kept running into Fredrick and Britney getting along way too well. No way did he believe they were just friends.
Aaron shot them a glare. “Fredrick, why are you always haunting me?”
Every time he saw Fredrick, he couldn’t help but remember what Fredrick had said back at Wonder Restaurant.
Turns out, he wasn’t just messing with me.
Fredrick was clearly up to something with Britney.
Aaron’s mind raced as he looked at Britney. “Britney, you need to keep your distance from him. This guy is nothing but
trouble. He…”
“You good?” Fredrick smirked at Aaron, clearly enjoying how riled up he was. “Why do you think I’m up to no good? Just because Britney and I are close now? Aaron, if it weren’t for you, would people really be saying all that crap about me and Britney?”
Fredrick shot him a cold look, grilling Aaron, who was obviously feeling guilty.

It was stupid that Aaron really thought Fredrick didn’t know he was the one behind all those rumors about him and Britney not getting along.
Just because Fredrick let it go before doesn’t mean he’s letting it ide now.
When Aaron heard Fredrick’s last words, he couldn’t help but glance nervously at Britney.
But Britney didn’t even bother to look his way.
She just stood there next to Fredrick, her face unreadable, not even acknowledging Aaron.
Seeing this, Aaron felt his defenses crumble a little.
Britney used to always have his back, standing against Fredrick.
‘When did the tables turn like this? Since when did I become the outsider, standing where Fredrick used to be?’ Aaron thought.
Britney turned to Fredrick. “Come on, let’s go. I’ll drive you to the office.”
With that, she walked in with Fredrick, making their way to the garage.
Fredrick followed behind Britney, but halfway to the garage, he suddenly stopped, turned around, and shot Aaron a look that was pure provocation, like he was daring Aaron to do something about it.
That look was enough to make Aaron want to lose it right then and there.
Even after Britney drove off with Fredrick, Aaron was still frozen in place, completely at a loss, long after their car disappeared from sight.
Britney glanced sideways at Fredrick in the passenger seat, noticing how he was clearly enjoying himself. “What did you mean by that just now?” she asked.
She was referring to that little back-and-forth between Fredrick and Aaron.
Fredrick paused, then realized what she meant. “Oh, those rumors about us not getting along? Most of them were started by Aaron.”
Basically, he spread stories that you couldn’t stand me, that just seeing me made you totally uneasy.
Britney’s hands tightened on the steering wheel. “He’ll say anything just to keep me from getting close to other families. The guy lies through his teeth.”
She’d never once told anyone she wanted to avoid Fredrick.
They lived in the same city and moved in the same circles. There was no way they wouldn’t run into each other all the time.
Fredrick folded his hands and looked at Britney. “I’m actually curious. What did he say about me to you?”
Britney replied honestly, “He said you thought the Santos family should’ve crashed and burned ages ago, and that I’m just a girl. So when I get married, the Santos family will end up in someone else’s hands, and all my hard work will just be for someone else’s benefit.”
Not that Britney ever bought into any of that crap.
Aaron would say stuff like that right in front of Fredrick, always running his mouth with his buddies.
But at the time, they all insisted it was Fredrick who’d said those hings about her.

Britney just brushed it off. Rumors kept flying, and as long as nobody said it to her face, she didn’t bother to care.
No one would have guessed Aaron was behind it all.
She couldn’t help but wonder if Aaron was actually worried she’d end up liking Fredrick.
Otherwise, why go to all that trouble, spreading rumors about both of us just to keep us apart?
Britney was honestly speechless at Aaron’s behavior.
Fredrick replied earnestly, “I really never said any of that. Honestly, I didn’t. Back when your family was going through all that…”
He wanted to explain that when the Santos family was in trouble he’d genuinely wanted to help out.
But he was out of town at the time, so he tried to get help from his friends right away.
But the Galloway family stepped in first.
And Fredrick had no idea that the Santos family had gone to the Pollard family for help first, but his dad refused.
By the time he rushed back, the Galloway family had already stepped in with a big chunk of cash.
Just thinking about it made Fredrick feel so frustrated.
His whole thing with Britney got cut off just because his dad had zero sense.
Man, it was so damn annoying.
Britney said quietly, “I believe you.”
If she had actually believed what Aaron said, she never would’ve picked up the phone herself and said yes to registering the marriage license with Fredrick that day.
Just those four words made all of Fredrick’s anger over Aaron’s dama melt away in an instant.
If Britney hadn’t been so focused on driving, she would’ve caught the way Fredrick’s lips curled up in a pleased little smile. Her trust had him grinning before he even realized it.
Fredrick gave her a soft, satisfied smile. “Guess you really do know how to pick ’em.”
Britney didn’t quite catch what Fredrick meant at first.
She turned her head and gave him a quick glance, and was surprised to see him actually smiling.
Looking back, she noticed something.
Ever since she started hanging out with Fredrick more often, he seemed to smile way more than before.
Britney couldn’t help but smile back.
She dropped Fredrick off at Orion Tower.
Fredrick grinned, “Want to come check out how the studio look”
He meant the new gaming studio Britney had just opened.
Most of the staff were still on break and hadn’t even started yet.

Britney turned him down with a quick smile. Tve got some errands to run,” she said, and didn’t hang around.
