Everything Taken I Left to Become CEO (Darcy and Zane) novel Chapter 99

**Chapter 99: You’re Completely Over Him**

Darcy spun around, her heart racing as disbelief washed over her.

“M-Mr. Blackwood? What brings you here?” she stammered, her voice barely a whisper.

Jethro, with determination etched across his face, gripped the reins with a firm hold, his legs encasing the horse’s flanks as he secured Darcy against him. The world around them faded into a blur, the thundering hooves gradually calming as the horse settled into a slower pace.

Only when the animal was finally at ease did Jethro allow himself to breathe again, his gaze softening as he looked down at the woman cradled in his arms.

“Are you hurt?” he asked, his voice low and filled with concern.

“N-no, I’m fine,” she replied, though the tremor in her voice betrayed her.

However, as Jethro dismounted and extended his hand to help her down, Darcy’s legs buckled beneath her, and she collapsed into unconsciousness.

“Darcy?” Panic surged through Jethro, his eyes narrowing with alarm.

Without a moment’s hesitation, he lifted her effortlessly into his arms and strode purposefully away from the field, his heart pounding with urgency.

Brandon, having just wiped the sweat from his brow, rushed over, a cadre of doctors in crisp white coats trailing closely behind him.

“Doctor, please check on Ms. Gale immediately!” he urged, his voice laced with distress.

Not too far away, Zane stood frozen, his expression a mix of shock and disbelief.

Darcy was hurt?

“Zane.” Zora gripped his arm, her voice shaky. “I’m feeling dizzy…”

Anxious to help, Zane responded quickly, “I’ll take you to see a doctor right now.”

Half an hour later, Darcy slowly blinked her eyes open, her vision coming into focus.

A strikingly handsome face loomed above her, and as recognition dawned, Jethro immediately signaled for the doctor to come closer for an examination.

“Are you feeling any pain anywhere else?” he asked, his tone gentle, as if he were handling something fragile.

Darcy felt momentarily dazed, her thoughts swirling.

Am I dreaming? When did he become so… caring?

She shook her head slightly. “No, just a bit thirsty.”

As if on cue, Cindy hurried over with a glass of water, urgency in her movements.

Darcy gulped down two glasses in rapid succession, feeling the cool liquid soothe her dry throat.

Just three minutes later, the doctor arrived from the adjoining room. After a thorough examination, he reassured her, “Nothing serious. Just take it easy for a while, walk around a bit, and you’ll be back to your usual self.”

“Thank you, Doctor,” Darcy said gratefully, sitting up and turning her gaze to Jethro.

“Mr. Blackwood, were you in the area this afternoon?” she inquired, curiosity piquing her interest.

Jethro nodded, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. “Yes, I happened to be playing golf with a client next door. When Cindy called, I rushed right over.”

“Oh, thank goodness my brother was there!” Cindy exclaimed, still visibly shaken from the earlier chaos. “I was terrified!”

Just then, Brandon entered, his face a mask of regret.

“Mr. Blackwood, Ms. Gale, I’m so sorry. This is entirely my fault. I should have been more attentive,” he stammered, guilt gnawing at him.

Brandon’s heart raced as he recalled the scene on the field. If anything serious had happened to Darcy, he knew Jethro would have unleashed his fury upon him without hesitation.

Suddenly, the door swung open with a forceful kick, startling both Zane and Zora.

Zane frowned, glancing toward the entrance.

Darcy and Cindy had only taken a few steps from her room when they heard the commotion next door.

It was Zane and Zora.

Cindy scrunched her face and whispered quickly, “After you passed out, Zane rushed over carrying Zora, shouting ‘Doctor! Doctor!’ as if it were a matter of life and death. Turns out she just had a bruised arm. I’ve had worse injuries from playground fights when I was three.”

Darcy couldn’t help but chuckle, appreciating Cindy’s knack for humor even in tense moments.

“You’re not upset?” Cindy asked, her eyes wide with surprise.

“Why would I be upset?” Darcy replied, her tone light.

“That blind, deaf idiot Zane chose to save Zora instead of you! You had seven years together! He’s a total monster!” Cindy exclaimed, her indignation palpable.

Darcy shrugged nonchalantly. “You just called him a monster. Why should I be upset over a monster?”

Cindy was taken aback for a moment, but then her eyes twinkled with mischief. “Congratulations. You’re completely over him!”

Not far behind them, Jethro caught wind of their conversation, a subtle smile creeping onto his lips as he listened.

At that moment, they overheard the exchange from the next room, clear as day.

“How could the horse lose control for no reason?”

“Mrs. Gale doesn’t know how to ride. It happens.”

And in that instant, the tension in the air shifted, leaving behind a sense of clarity and resolution.
