Dorian typed, “What?”

Jasper replied, “You hurt her badly. She probably wants nothing to do with you now. I’ve been through it, I
know.”
Dorian typed, “You and I aren’t the same. Arden liked me. She liked me for years.”
Jasper fired back, “Alright then. Let’s see if you can actually win her back.”
Dorian fell silent.
At seven sharp, Arden’s alarm went off. She dragged herself up, glanced once at the doorway and her bed, then got ready.
When she went downstairs, Dorian was already sitting at the table. He looked up and called, “Come eat.”
Arden replied, “No need. Talia’s bringing me breakfast. Enjoy, Mr. Vale.”
She turned to leave.
Dorian asked, “Where are you going?”
“Oh,” Arden answered, “Caleb was worried about me. He drove my car over and is waiting outside to take
me to work.”
“Ride with me. We’re going to the group anyway.”
“No,” Arden said calmly. “Caleb’s taking me. I’m leaving first, Mr. Vale.”
She walked out.
Dorian stared at the breakfast spread, every dish something she liked. He picked up his phone
Dorian called, “Lucien, is Caleb outside the villa?”
Lucien answered, “Yes, sir. Want Kade to stop him?”
“No.”
Arden stepped out and immediately saw her white Volkswagen. Caleb was leaning against it, facing Lucien.
She jogged over. “Caleb.”
“Arden.” Caleb’s eyes flicked to her neck. Seeing nothing out of place, he finally relaxed. “Let’s go. I’ll take
you to work.”
She got in the car. “Thanks, I’ll drive myself tonight though. I don’t want to keep dragging you around and messing up your schedule.”
Caleb asked, “He didn’t do anything to you last night, right?”

“No,” Arden replied. “I slept in the guest room.”
“From now on, I’ll pick you up every night. You’re coming back to the house.”
Arden nodded. “Okay.”
Caleb sent a message.
Caleb typed, “She can work for you. But at night she’s coming back to our place. That’s my parents‘ rule.”
Dorian saw it and didn’t respond.
Caleb put his phone away. “Mom’s worried you’re not eating right. She bought a lot of groceries and wants you home tonight. There’s been a serial assault case recently. She’s uneasy and told me you have to come home every day.”
Arden added, “Eugenia and Theresa also asked me to come tonight. They said it’s to thank me for staying with Mr. Vale that night.”
Caleb started the car. “Arden, let me ask you straight. How do you feel about Dorian now? Do you still like him?”
Arden looked out at the clear sky and shook her head. “No. He’s not right for me. Taking care of him now is just repaying Eugenia’s kindness. Once his condition stabilizes, I’ll tell him the truth about the secret marriage.
“If he knows I married him only to get the five billion to save our family, he’ll agree to the divorce.
“He hates being lied to.”
Caleb thought about it and agreed.
“That makes sense.”
“Arden, why don’t you quit and come work for me?” Caleb suggested. “Do you really plan to stay at Vale Group? Mr. Vale’s been acting off lately. If you bring up divorce and he loses control, I’m worried he’ll make things hard for you.”
“Two weeks from now there’s an industry summit in Westborough,” Arden explained. “Noah got me an invite. A lot of companies will be there. I’m planning to resign. I’ll just have to pay the penalty.”
Caleb looked surprised. “What kind of contract did you sign?”
“If I quit or transfer before three years, I owe a penalty.”
“You should’ve told me. That doesn’t sound enforceable. Or did Dorian set you up on purpose?”
Arden shook her head. “I don’t know. He hated me back then. Maybe it was intentional.”
“It’s fine,” Caleb said. “As long as you get away from him. I’ll cover it.”
“No,” Arden replied. “I’ve saved enough. I hardly spend money. I can handle it.”
