Chapter 7
1 realized Liam was killer at closing deals.
He always ran the room.
Tonight’s client? I’d been chasing them for three months straight.
No matter what I tried, their rep wouldn’t give an inch.
Soon as we sat down, Liam got straight to business. Laid it all out. Got shut down immediately.
But he didn’t miss a beat. Just steered the conversation, played hardball when he needed to, dialed up the charm when it mattered-and
somehow locked it down.
Watching him work-totally unfazed, totally in control-it was attractive as hell.
I wasn’t gonna lie to myself about that.
But I’d been burned. I wasn’t about to put myself out there again.
On the drive back, he circled back to it.
“Last time I gave you a ride was Christmas. You were still pretty torn up over someone. You past that now?”
I figured he was just making conversation.
I shrugged. “That’s over. Ancient history.”
He smiled a little. “So you’re open to seeing someone?”
I went still,
He said it like he was asking if I was free for lunch. Totally casual.
I shifted. “You trying to set me up with someone?”
He chuckled. “Nah. I’m throwing my own name in the hat.”
My brain lagged.
“Wait-what?”
Eyes still on the road. Voice easy. “I’m saying I want to take you out.”
I wasn’t ready for another relationship.
Maybe I never would be,
Maybe I didn’t want a guy in my life again. At all.
I gave it to him straight. “I’m not really there yet.”
He just nodded. Didn’t look fazed. “That’s fair.”

Chapter 7
I thought he’d laugh it off. Say he was half joking,
Instead: “Then I’ll wait. Take your time.”
He pulled up outside my building,
I thought I spotted someone familiar by the entrance.
Summer heat stuck to everything,
I climbed out, said thanks to Liam-
Then Grayson appeared and yanked me aside.
Felt like a rerun.
I stared. “How’d you even know I was here?”
He wouldn’t meet my eyes. “I asked your mom.”
I was too tired for this. I’d had drinks at dinner. My head was still forry.
