Ex-Mate Wants Me Back (Seraphina and Mortimer) novel Chapter 112

Chapter 112

Third Person’s POV

“Vivian is right.” Lillian’s voice sereeched, her pheromones crashing through the room like a runaway train.

She stared at Seraphina with unmasked contempt. “If you weren’t in bed with this Johnny guy, there’s no way you’d find a bottom-feeder like him in a city this size. Not that fast.”

“Maybe you still resent Mortimer for giving Vivian extra protection,” Lillian continued, her eyes narrowing into slits of pure venom. “Maybe you’re too cowardly to challenge the Blade Pack directly, so you took it out on Rolf. My poor son… almost losing his soul because he fell into the hands of a cold-blooded snake like you.”

The hospital directors and senior surgeons in the room felt their blood hit à boiling point. Their wolf instincts were bristling, the air vibrating with the suppressed urge to tear into this woman.

Then, the heavy oak door to the reception room was slammed open by a force of pure violence.

Mortimer stepped inside. He carried the scent of a midnight blizzard, an arctic chill that sucked the warmth out of the room.

Behind him, two obsidian-clad Blade Pack guards held two men by their collars-George, the orderly, and his son Johnny,

whose legs were visibly shaking.

Mortimer’s gaze cut through the room like a laser, locking onto Vivian’s pupils with terrifying precision.

Vivian felt her heart stutter.

The syrupy sweetness of her pheromones was suddenly tainted by the bitter, medicinal tang of pure terror.

“Want to know why we looked at them?”

Mortimer’s voice was a low, dangerous rumble. He pulled out the chair directly next to Seraphina and sat down with the casual arrogance of a king reclaiming a throne.

His Alpha aura expanded in a shockwave, instantly crushing Lillian’s frantic posturing into nothingness.

“I ran the investigation. Any questions? Aim them at me. I’ll give you every answer you’re looking for.”

He rested his right hand on the armrest-a dominant, relaxed pose.

He was so close to Seraphina that his heat was radiating off him in waves.

Almost reflexively, Mortimer’s hand shifted, his warm palm covering Seraphina’s left hand where it rested on the armrest.

Seraphina’s brow furrowed. The heat of his touch felt like an insult, a performance of intimacy that came three years too late.

She pulled her hand away without a word, widening the gap between their chairs.

Mortimer’s eyes darkened for a split second.

A flash of irritation at being rejected flickered across his face, followed by something deeper-an unreadable, obsessive curiosity.

But for Vivian, the world was ending.

Seeing the Green father and son in cuffs was the sound of her trap snapping shut on her own neck. Her face went the color of wet paper.

“Morty…” she whispered, her voice a jagged wreck.

Deep in her consciousness, her wolf was already whimpering, paralyzed by the Alpha’s weight.

Mortimer didn’t look at her with indulgence anymore. There was no warmth left.

He looked at her like a problem that needed to be solved.

And Vivian realized, with a sickening jolt, that she had no more moves left. She didn’t regret hurting Rolf; she regretted being sloppy enough to get caught-and being exposed as a “devious bitch” in front of her Alpha.

“Vivian Davis. Do you want to answer your mother’s question? Or should I do it for you?”

The use of her full name made the entire Davis family flinch.

The aura on their shoulders was physical now.

Mortimer wasn’t just annoyed; he was lethal.

“Morty, I… why are you asking me? I don’t know why a nurse would want to hurt my brother.”

She was still trying to swim against the current.

She was betting on the fact that George hadn’t received his final payment yet. He wouldn’t sell her out. Not yet.

“Heh. Still lying,” Professor Bauer barked, his patience finally snapping.

Mortimer shifted his weight. He leaned back and draped his right arm across the back of Seraphina’s chair.

He wasn’t touching her, but to anyone watching, it looked like he was pulling her into his embrace-possessive, territorial, and

clear.

Seraphina felt the weight of his shadow and her jaw tightened.
