“Heh. She should ‘understand’ you?” Professor Bauer let out a sharp, protective bark of a laugh. “I didn’t see much understanding from your side when Miss Davis was letting her mob tear Seraphina apart on the internet!”
Connor let out a dry, nervous chuckle. Seeing that Mortimer had no intention of smoothing things over, he could only look at Seraphina with a pathetic, pleading expression. “Seraphina, truly… I’m sorry. I hope you can forgive our earlier impulse.”
Seraphina didn’t look at him. She looked at Vivian. “I accept Mr. Davis’ apology. But since the truth is out, shouldn’t Miss Davis go online and apologize to me-and to this healing center?”
Vivian’s face contorted. “We already said it was the orderly’s fault! What does it have to do with me? Why should I apologize?”
A public apology? If she did that, her standing in the werewolves’ social elite would be incinerated.
Seraphina just watched her, silent.
Her eyes were like a frozen lake-dead, flat, and devoid of any emotional ripple.
She wasn’t rushing her; she wasn’t even angry. She sat there like a statue, as if Vivian’s decision was an irrelevant variable in a clinical study. She had stated the requirement; the execution was up to the culprit.
The indifference stung Vivian more than a slap.
She turned to Mortimer, her eyes brimming with tears, her voice dropping into that fragile, omega frequency. “Morty… are you really going to let her treat me like this?”
As she spoke, she leaked a desperate thread of pheromones-a scent of syrupy sweetness laced with the medicinal bitterness of her wolf-soul fracture. It was a silent, submissive plea.
In the past, this was her ultimate weapon. One whiff and Mortimer would fold.
But this time, the scent hit an invisible wall. Mortimer’s expression didn’t shift.
His fingers continued their slow, rhythmic drum against the back of Seraphina’s chair.
He looked bored, detached-a predator watching an insect struggle in a web.
The silence was suffocating. Vivian’s heart began to redline. Usually, if Seraphina even looked at her sideways, Mortimer would step in.
Now, he was just… waiting.

Finally, the drumming stopped.
Mortimer looked at Vivian. “The million dollars that hit Johnny’s offshore account this morning. It came from your private trust.
He said it with the flat, deadpan delivery of a CEO reading a quarterly report. But to the Davis, it was a thunderclap.
Vivian’s face didn’t just go pale; it went translucent.
“Vivian,” Mortimer said, his golden eyes locking onto hers. “Is that all your brother’s life is worth to you? A million bucks?”
The room felt like it was losing oxygen.
“Morty…” Vivian’s voice was a violent tremor.
She tried to push her pheromones harder, but the scent had turned sour—a jagged, acrid smell of pure, unadulterated panic.

She knew Mortimer’s reach. If he had the wire transfer, there was no lie big enough to cover it.
“What… what does this mean?” Lillian stammèred, looking from Mortimer to Vivian.
“I thought the orderly was the one… why is Vivian involved?”
Connor, however, wasn’t a fool. He saw the logic instantly.
His daughter had bought the staff. She had poisoned her own kin to frame her rival.
He looked at Vivian with a mix of fury and genuine, bone-deep fear.
This “pure, fragile” girl was a monster.
Connor lunged forward and hit Vivian across the face so hard she nearly fell out of her chair.
“You animal! Are you even human? You tried to kill your own brother!”
Vivian gasped, clutching her burning cheek.
But she recovered fast. The survival instinct of a cornered omega kicked in. She shook her head frantically. “Dad, no! I… I made a mistake! I was just playing a joke! I didn’t want Rolf to die. I was just… curious. I wanted to see what would happen if he skipped a dose. I didn’t know it was dangerous!”
