Third Person’s POV

It took Seraphina a second to process his insult, then she turned to him with a look of pure, academic disdain. “Do you just have a fetish for calling people dogs, Mortimer?”
This man-arrogant, entitled, and entirely too full of himself-clearly had zero concept of basic respect.
“Last time you called me a dog in a text, and I let it slide. Now you’re calling my friend one too?”
Her voice was a sub-zero blade, and it left Mortimer blinking in genuine confusion.
Then, the memory hit him. The office. The photo of the clouds he’d tried to send her-the message Velda had interrupted, causing him to accidentally hit ‘send’ on: “Look at this stupid dog, reminds me of you.”
Mortimer’s eyelid gave a violent twitch. He opened his mouth to explain the glitch, but Seraphina was already reaching for the door. “If you’re just here to be toxic, we’re done. I’m going back to the healing center.”
Maybe he’d been beaten down so much today that his ego finally ran out of gas. For once, Mortimer didn’t bark back.
“I said the wrong thing. I apologize,” he said, his voice dropping into a low, level register. It wasn’t the voice of the Alpha of the Blade pack; it was the voice of a man who realized he was losing the only person who mattered.
He looked at her, his eyes dark. “Can we talk? For real this time?”
The change in his energy caught her off guard. He actually sounded like a human being.
“Fine,” Seraphina nodded. She didn’t believe in fluff; she went straight to the terms. “There’s no blood feud here, Mortimer. We signed a contract. There’s no point in tearing each other’s throats out over a marriage that only exists on paper. A clean break is the best move for both of us. Don’t you think?”
Mortimer didn’t answer immediately. He just stared at the steering wheel, whispering the words under his breath: “A clean break…”
He let out a dry, hollow laugh. “Yeah. A clean break.”
He looked up at her clear, steady eyes. “Fine. We do it your way. Everything by the book. One month from now, when the term ends, I’ll sign the papers. You get your freedom.”
Seraphina’s goal had been exactly that from the start. “I’m in.”
“So, until then…. if I need you to show up, you’ll play the part? You’ll cooperate?” Mortimer’s eyes were burning with an intensity she couldn’t quite read.
Seraphina was too focused on the finish line to notice the trap in his phrasing. She nodded. “I told you before. If you need me as your Luna for a function, I’ll be there. I’ll finish the job.”
“Good,” Mortimer murmured, dropping his gaze.
Seraphina couldn’t see his face, but a massive weight lifted off her shoulders.
The deal was struck.
Thirty days of going through the motions, and then she’d never have to see his face again.
She looked out the window, a strange, unnamable emotion flickering in her eyes.
The Davis Estate.
“I am NOT posting that apology, Dad!” Vivian paced the living room, her face twisted with a toxic mix of fury and fear. “People are already calling me a home-wrecker. If they find out I hurt Rolf on purpose, the internet will literally skin me alive.”

She threw herself onto the sofa, her eyes burning with spite. “Seraphina is a bitch. She’s doing this just to bury me.”
Connor sat across from her, his face a mask of cold stone. “Are you really this delusional? You think an I***** *m post is your biggest problem right now?”
Vivian froze. “What do you mean? You think they’re going to do something else to me?”
