Ex-Mate Wants Me Back (Seraphina and Mortimer) novel Chapter 127

Chapter 127

Third Person’s PQV

“Those two idiots, George and his son, were sloppy. They left enough breadcrumbs for Mortimer to track the whole thing back

to me.”

Vivian let out a sharp, jagged huff, her nails dragging across the leather of the sofa. “If they’d just kept their mouths shut, Seraphina would be out on the street by now, not living her best life.”

Lillian felt her blood run cold at her daughter’s casual admission of malice.

She lunged forward, slamming her hand over Vivian’s mouth. “Shut up! Do you actually want Rolf dead?” she hissed, cutting her eyes toward the heavy oak door.

“Don’t let your father hear a word of this. Ever since he slapped you, he’s been at his breaking point. No matter how much of a disappointment Rolf is, he’s still Connor’s only son.”

Vivian shoved her mother’s hand away, her lip curling in disgust. “And I’m his only daughter. He didn’t seem to care much about ‘blood ties’ when he was trying to break my jaw.”

At the mention of the humiliation, the wolf in her mind let out a wounded, spiteful snarl.

The air in the room, already heavy with her cloying omega scent, took on a sharp, acrid tang-the smell of her weak wolf starting to rot from the inside.

Lillian sighed, looking defeated. “Rolf carries the Davis name. He’s the one who’s supposed to take over the estate. Your father is old-school like that.”

“If Rolf hadn’t made it through that surgery, who knows whose name would be on the estate,” Vivian mused, tilting her head.

She looked at Lillian with a predatory glint in her eyes. “Mom, you’re his stepmother. Do you really think Rolf is going to take care of you once Dad’s gone?”

She leaned in, her voice a toxic whisper. “The second he gets the keys to the kingdom, he’ll kick us both out into the cold. You know it.”

Lillian’s face went ghost-white. “Don’t be ridiculous. I raised him. I made sure he had every resource-”

“Does that matter?” Vivian’s smile was sweet and lethal. “What if he finds out his biological mother didn’t just ‘pass away’? What if he finds out she died because you spent months making sure she stayed in a state of high-stress collapse? Do you think he’ll still be a good little boy then?”

Lillian bolted upright, her voice trembling. “How… how do you know about that?”

“Mom, don’t look at me like I’m the enemy. I’m not going to tell anyone.”

Vivian reached out, her thin arms wrapping around Lillian like vines, pulling her back down. “Instead of waiting for Rolf to kick us out, why don’t we make sure Dad leaves the inheritance to me? I’ve got the Blades in my pocket. I’ll make this family bigger than Dad ever could. As for Rolf… he’s too weak to lead anyway.”

It was pure poison, but it worked. Lillian’s fear shifted into calculation.

They shared a look-the silent pact of two predators looking for a bigger kill.

Then, the doorbell screamed through the house, shattering the mood.

The maid opened the door.

“Can I help you?”

“LAPD. Detective Division. We have a warrant for Vivian Davis regarding a charge of attempted solicitation of murder. She needs to come with us.” The lead detective didn’t wait for an invite. His eyes were like cold steel as they locked onto Vivian in the living

room.

The “grand plan” disintegrated instantly. The smiles on their faces froze like cracked plaster.

Vivian’s pheromones spiked in a chaotic mess of medicinal bitterness.

“A warrant? On whose authority?” Lillian shrieked, lunging toward the cops like a cornered animal. “My daughter is a victim! You’re listening to lies from some jealous bitch!”

“We have full documentation of the solicitation. Whether she was framed is for a judge to decide. Right now, Miss Davis is coming to the station.” The detective was a wall of indifference.
