Chapter 128
Third Person’s PQV
On the drive back to the healing center, Seraphina hung up the phone with the police. Her face was a mask of cold, professional
iron.
Mortimer white-knuckled the steering wheel, his jaw working as he tried to find the words. He kept glancing at her, looking like a man standing on a live wire.
Seraphina didn’t give him the satisfaction of struggling. She turned to him, her eyes sharp. “You want to know why I’m putting Vivian in a cage?”
Mortimer hesitated for two beats, then let out a low “Yeah.”
He avoided her gaze, his Alpha confidence replaced by a hollow, flickering guilt,
“Because she committed a crime,” Seraphina said, her voice a flat, uncompromising gavel. “It’s my civic duty. It’s that simple.”
She sat with her spine locked, showing zero doubt.
She’d forced Vivian to apologize to kill the PR nightmare, but that didn’t mean she was letting the felony slide.
She knew the legal system-if the orderly didn’t talk, the charges might not stick.
But reporting it was her move; what the court did was their problem.
Mortimer looked at the absolute conviction in her eyes and felt a bitter surge of self-loathing.
He finally saw the truth: Seraphina was done with him.
Because she didn’t care anymore, she didn’t have to worry about his feelings.
She wasn’t afraid of making him angry by arresting his “childhood friend,” because his anger was no longer a variable that
mattered to her.
She didn’t even check his reaction after she spoke.
When she loved him, his word was law. Now? He was just the guy driving the car.
He waited for a lecture, a fight, anything. But all he got was silence.
After a few blocks, Mortimer spoke up, his voice stiff. “Don’t get the wrong idea. I’m just worried that if her wolf-soul fracture flares up in a cell, the Davis will blame you. That’s all.”
Seraphina blinked in genuine surprise, then went back to being a glacier. “Fine. I’ll make sure she gets a top-tier doctor.”
She’d only seen Vivian “collapse” once-the rest were just stories Mortimer told.
