Randall bolted straight up from the couch. “Holy shit! I just bragged to Chloe in our group chat about helping Morty pull strings for Vivian… She’s going to skin me alive when I get home! She finally started being nice to me this week!”
As he talked, Randall grabbed his coat with lightning speed and made a run for the door.
“I’m out! You guys enjoy the drinks!”
Before anyone could answer, he vanished into the loud, pounding bass of the club.
Humphrey stared into Mortimer’s dark, murderous eyes. The tiny bit of brain he’d just grown finally clicked–he realized he was about to turn his best friend into a mortal enemy.
He stood up, looking incredibly awkward. “So, uh… I just remembered my girl is waiting for me. I gotta run too.”
The second Humphrey left, the other young wolves he’d dragged along to fill the booth started making excuses to split.
“Yeah… I should probably head out too.”
In the blink of an eye, the entire booth cleared out, leaving behind nothing but a mix of expensive colognes.
The only one left was Wilmot, who was dealing with his own relationship crisis.
He casually swirled his glass of whiskey, checking his phone as Chloe updated her missing dog post, then glanced over at the man drinking in silence next to him.
“Since you aren’t doing this for Vivian,” Wilmot said, raising an eyebrow, “are you going to help Seraphina look for Dash?”
Mortimer’s hand froze mid-air as he was about to pour another drink.
He turned his head to look at Wilmot like the guy was a complete lunatic.
Seraphina was keeping a secret “side-piece” behind his back, and now the guy was lost, and he-the legal husband-was supposed to go help her find her lover?
Was he crazy, or had the entire world gone completely nuts?
“Who knows? If you help her bring the guy back, Seraphina might actually treat you like a human being again,” Wilmot kept throwing out terrible advice.
Mortimer gave him a freezing glare, gripping his bottle of vodka so hard it almost cracked in his hand.
He seriously wanted to punch this guy in the face.
No sane person would ever suggest something this stupid.
Help her look?
Inside his mind, Barton let out a vicious growl. The wolf wished that goddamn bastard would completely vanish from the face d the earth tonight.
Wilmot raised his eyebrows, clearly loving the drama. “Think about it. Seraphina’s been keeping this guy on the side for a while, right? You never thought to check his background?”
Mortimer paused his drink.
After a long beat, a deeply mocking laugh came out of his throat.
Investigate some loser whose name wasn’t even worth remembering?

Did the guy even deserve that?
As the Alpha of Blade, was he really going to look like a creepy stalker spying on his mate’s private life?
“Why don’t we just go check out the scene?”
Wilmot nudged the increasingly frustrated man, his voice sounding incredibly tempting. “If the guy is really gone, Seraphina must be a total mess right now, This is your perfect chance to show some spousal support and slide in to comfort her while she’s vulnerable.”
Mortimer totally laughed off Wilmot’s amateur relationship advice. “No wonder Trista filed for a forced arbitration with the Council to dump you. You didn’t just cheat physically; you literally have a giant tumor in your brain.”
His woman was heartbroken over another man, and he was supposed to rum over and offer her a shoulder to cry on?
Was he insane?
Ten minutes later.
Inside a black SUV parked by the road, Mortimer sat in the passenger seat, his face totally rigid, looking a complete mess of mixed emotions.
Wilmot gripped the steering wheel, biting his lip so hard to keep from laughing out loud on the spot.
Talk about saying one thing and doing another.
His mouth said no, but his body was incredibly cooperative.
Meanwhile, on the midnight streets of Los Angeles, the wind felt like a knife.
Seraphina had lost track of how far she’d walked in the freezing cold.
Even with her elite female wolf bloodline, her legs were completely numb and aching with every step.
But she just kept moving like a machine, following the route where Dash might have slipped away.
She kept her head down, her thumb trembling as she constantly refreshed the local pet groups on T*****r.
But the only things popping up were spam ads and a depressing lack of updates.
“Sera, don’t panic. Chloe already called a friend at the transit bureau to pull the street security footage. We’ll have a lead soon.”
Trista saw how pale Seraphina looked. Heartbroken for her friend, she threw an arm around her shoulder to comfort her.
Dash might just be a month-old puppy, but to Seraphina, he was her only lifeline. He was the only thing keeping her sane after she finally cut ties with Mortimer’s toxic drama. A
Trista knew better than anyone that ever since Dash showed up, Seraphina’s hollow eyes had finally shown a spark of real life.
If anything actually happened to Dash tonight… she couldn’t even imagine what it would do to her.
Seraphina bit her pale, bloodless lip.
Seeing the obvious worry and anxiety in Trista’s eyes, she forced a weak, reassuring smile. “Don’t worry. I’m holding it together.
Trista was about to say more, but out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a familiar black SUV slowly pulling over just a short distance away.

Third Person’s POV
The window rolled down, and sitting in the passenger seat was none other than Mortimer.
“Damn it, why won’t they just leave us alone?” Trista’s brows knitted tightly, her tone dripping with pure, unadulterated disgust.
Seraphina followed her gaze.
Her eyes darkened the moment she saw Mortimer’s stone-cold face.
The car door swung open.
Mortimer stepped out first, dragging a heavy, suffocating wave of aura as he strode toward thent.
When he caught sight of Seraphina’s nose, red from the cold, and her pale, exhausted face under the streetlights, his pupils instantly narrowed into slits.
