Third Person’s POV

“I’m staying here tonight.” He completely ripped off the pathetic, innocent act he had been playing just moments ago. The sharp, predatory gaze of an apex/ruler took over, radiating pure, suffocating dominance.

“Absolutely not,” Seraphina rejected without a second thought.

“Don’t forget, our mating bond is still completely active. Mortimer’s scorching hot body, still dripping with water, aggressively pressed a few inches closer, trapping her with nowhere to hide.

“Before, you claimed you moved out of my territory because I wouldn’t let you keep that stray dog. Well, I’m telling you now: I can accept Dash’s existence, but I will absolutely not accept my mate living apart from me during our marriage.”

“Mortimer, we had an agreement!” Seraphina gritted her teeth, throwing up her defensive walls. “As long as I play the role of your Luna on paper and fulfill my duties, that’s it!”

“That’s not going to work anymore.” Mortimer shoved his phone right in front of her face. The heavy scent of his Alpha pheromones vibrated through the steam. “Word about our separation got out. The rumors are already starting.”

Seraphina glanced at the screen. It was a text from his beta, Tade.

Someone had spotted the wife of Mortimer living at Oriental Elegance, suspecting a separation.

If this kind of gossip blew up, it wouldn’t just affect the stability of the entire pack-it would tank the Craig Corporation’s stock.

Oriental Elegance was the exact apartment building she was renting right now.

Because of that so-called “medical malpractice” incident a while back, her photo had been plastered all over the internet, making her easily recognizable to the public.

But she had only been living here for a few days. How did word travel so fast?

No wonder Mortimer was throwing his weight around, demanding to stay here. He was just paranoid that the Craig Corporation -and the pack’s reputation-would be dragged through the mud by this scandal.

“Since you promised to do your duty as Luna Seraphina, don’t you also have an obligation to help me crush any rumors that threaten the Craig Corporation?” Mortimer stared her down, closing the final gap between them.

The primal pressure of a top-tier Alpha caged her like an invisible net.

He reached up, his long fingers lightly tilting her chin. He lowered his head, his lips hovering dangerously close to hers.

Right before his mouth could claim hers, Seraphina snapped her head to the side. “Whatever you need me to do, I’ll cooperate.”

She planted both hands flat against his smooth, rock-hard chest and forcefully shoved him back. “As for these highly inappropriate moves, Alpha Mortimer, I suggest you never try that again.”

His intoxicating cedar pheromones were making her heart race like a jackhammer, but she kept her face completely frozen

She pushed him one more time for good measure.

“I’m going out. Hurry up and wash.”

Ripping the door open, she practically bolted from the bathroom.

Remembering the blood-pumping sight she had just accidentally brushed her hands against-the hard muscle, the faint, primal wolf mark branded across his shoulder blade-Seraphina felt her entire face burning up.

Watching the door slam shut in his face, Mortimer looked down at his phone.

Adark, unreadable emotion swirled in his eyes.

His inner wolf was roaring in his chest-begging to chase her down, pin her against the wall, and completely drown her in his pheromones.

But logic ruthlessly strangled his instincts.

By the time Seraphina walked back into the living room, Wilmot and Trista had already bailed.

She collapsed onto the sofa, completely drained.

Just thinking about the fact that her separation from Mortimer had leaked to the press made her violently annoyed.

Lately, having Dash around had significantly improved her mental health.

Coupled with the fact that Mortimer had promised to legally sever their bond the second their contract expired, she had actually been in a good place.

Now, seeing fresh drama land right on her doorstep, that suppressed, suffocating frustration was creeping back in.

She dragged herself off the couch, walked over to her bag by the entryway, and shook her pills out into her palm. She poured a glass of water in the kitchen and quickly swallowed them.

Right on cue, Mortimer stepped out of the bathroom. He caught her mid-swallow and frowned. “What are you taking? Are you sick?”

“Supplements,” Seraphina lied smoothly, shaking her head.

She set her glass down and walked back to the couch.

Her brows pulled together as she looked at him.
