Chapter 158
Seraphina’s POV
His voice was heavy with suppressed anxiety and defeat.
I paused for a second, but I didn’t bother turning around. “Yeah. It’s fronestly pretty uncomfortable.”
I didn’t sugarcoat it. I couldn’t care less about protecting his fragile Alpha ego right now or pretending to care about his feelings.
“Thanks for helping with Dash tonight, by the way,” I added, glancing up at the wall clock. It was past 11 PM. The universal sign
for ‘get out.’
Mortimer clearly caught the cold, dismissive tone in my voice.
He walked closer, and I caught a flash of self-deprecating loneliness in his eyes.
After a long, agonizing beat, he murmured a low, tight, “Okay.”
He pulled out his phone, called George, and gave his driver the instructions to bring him some clothes.
But after hanging up, he didn’t head for the door. Instead, he walked right back to the sofa and sat down.
He stared at me intently, then threw a glance at Dash, who was currently dead to the world in his fluffy bed.
“We don’t have to live together,” Mortimer said, his voice dropping into a serious rumble. “But we need to have a real talk about
Dash.”
What the hell did Dash do now?
Hearing the puppy’s name instantly triggered memories of the vicious, psychotic trash Mortimer used to talk about him.
My brows knitted into a hard, defensive knot. “If you’re about to demand that I get rid of him again, save your breath.”
His sudden 180-degree personality flip tonight was the most suspicious part of this entire circus.
God knows what this scheming, manipulative Alpha was plotting now.
Seeing me throw my walls back up, Mortimer’s face twisted into a messy mix of exhaustion and genuine heartache.
“I don’t want you to send him away.”
He actually raised both hands in a defeated gesture of surrender, his tone dead serious. “I mean it. I accept Dash.”
I glared at him. My guard didn’t drop an inch; if anything, I was just more confused.
There was absolutely zero chance this cold-blooded tyrant had miraculously reformed in a single night.
When he first found out Dash was missing, he was literally gloating! He looked like he was praying I’d never find him.
Faced with my unfiltered, blatant mistrust, Mortimer let out a bitter, self-mocking laugh.
He lowered his eyelashes, his voice turning into a raw, raspy confession. “Before… I honestly thought the ‘little guy’ you were keeping in this apartment… was some young, cheap omega. That’s why I lost my mind. I couldn’t control my jealousy and anger. I wanted to force you to kick him out.”
I completely froze.
For a solid three seconds, I genuinely thought my ears were malfunctioning.
Wait. Mortimer thought ‘Dash’ was a human man?
I stared at him like he was a certified psychopath.

We had been having two cornpletely different, parallel conversations this entire time?”
No wonder he was always spitting pure venom whenever Dash was mentioned. No wonder he was literally beefing with a one- month-old puppy!
He actually thought Dash was my affair partner! He thought a dog was challenging his Alpha dignity!
“You thought I was cheating on you? That I was keeping a guy on the side?”
Once my brain caught up, a massive wave of insulted fury spiked in my chest.
“Mortimer, I am not completely devoid of boundaries like you. Even if I wanted to find a new mate, I would wait until our contract was legally terminated! I actually have morals!”
Hearing the suppressed rage in my voice, Mortimer’s face instantly crumpled into a spectacular display of regret and extreme embarrassment.
“I’m sorry, Sera… I was paranoid.” He looked like he wanted to defend himself, but ultimately just swallowed his words with a heavy sigh.
Honestly, if he had just spent two seconds doing a basic background check, he would have known the truth.
But his massive ego made him blindly argue with me for weeks instead.
