Chapter 172

Third Person’s POV
Seraphina had absolutely no idea why he was suddenly apologizing.
Mortimer’s lips parted, looking as though he desperately wanted to say something else, but couldn’t figure out how to force the words past his throat.
It wasn’t until the elevator reached the underground garage and Seraphina stepped out first that Mortimer finally called out to
her from behind, “Sera.”
Seraphina turned around.
Mortimer pressed his lips together and closed the distance between them. His voice dropped into a low, hesitant rumble. “If… if I hadn’t yielded so much to Vivian, do you think… would we already have little wolf pups by now?”
It took every single ounce of his courage just to force that question out.
He was carefully, desperately testing the waters, praying to catch even the slightest glimmer of possibility in her response.
But Seraphina simply stared at him blankly for a second before letting out an utterly unbothered, careless laugh.
“How is that possible?” she replied, her tone brutally crisp and direct. “There isn’t a clause about having children in our
contract.” 1
Contract… Just hearing that word made Mortimer’s chest tighten with a suffocating panic.
“We are about to sever our mating bond anyway. Having a child would just make the separation messier to handle, don’t you think?” Seraphina’s tone was incredibly light. She didn’t look like a woman discussing the hypothetical prospect of a family.
Instead, she sounded like she was shutting down a completely unviable business proposal-one she had absolutely zero intention of ever launching.
Mortimer opened his mouth, desperate to argue, but she effortlessly cut him off. “Let’s go. We shouldn’t keep everyone waiting.
Without giving him a second glance, she turned and walked straight toward the parked car.
Mortimer stood frozen in place, staring at her retreating back. After a long agonizing silence, he finally forced his heavy legs to
move and followed her.
At the Cloud Peak Ski Resort, by the time Mortimer and Seraphina arrived, nearly all the Craig Corporation employees attending the team-building retreat were already there.
Not only had the entire upper management shown up, but even the regular employees-who normally despised giving up their weekends for corporate events-had willingly dragged themselves out of bed for the promise of double overtime pay.
“Mr. and Mrs. Craig are here!” someone called out.
The crowd immediately turned, a chorus of respectful greetings echoing across the snow. “Good morning, Mr. Craig. Good morning, Madam.”
Tade had arrived early with his wife. Fueled by the promise of his doubled bonus, the moment he laid eyes on Dash, he looked at the puppy like he had just spotted a pirate king’s buried treasure.
“Young Master Dash is here!” Tade jogged over, eagerly reaching out to relieve Seraphina of the overstuffed pet supply bag with practiced sycophancy.
Young Master Dash…

Seraphina was momentarily stunned by Tade’s ridiculous choice of words.
Seeing the overly enthusiastic, flattering grin plastered across the beta’s face, she couldn’t help but picture a scheming, sycophantic courtier fronts historical drama.
“Let’s head inside first,” Mortimer whispered, leaning close to Seraphina while securely holding the puppy.
Seraphina nodded, her gaze subconsciously sweeping toward the sprawling ski slopes in the distance.
Almost instantly, a bone-deep chill began to slowly creep up her spine.
Lily let out a sharp, terrified whine in her mind.
Seraphina frowned involuntarily.
Her wolf was panicking, desperately wanting to flee the snow. Seraphina took a deep, steadying breath, forcefully suppressing Lily’s terror.
She walked forward in silence, staying close to Mortimer’s side.
As they passed the lines of employees, enthusiastic greetings washed over them.
“Hello, Mr. Craig. Hello, Madam.”
“Good morning, Mr. Craig. Good morning, Mrs. Craig.”
One after another. Seraphina just gave numb, polite nods in return, her expression visibly distant and distracted.
The group grabbed their gear and headed into the resort.
Mortimer had already ordered his staff to prepare top-tier ski suits and custom equipment for Seraphina in advance.
