Ex-Mate Wants Me Back (Seraphina and Mortimer) novel Chapter 179

Chapter 179

Third Person’s POV

Seraphina looked straight into Mortimer’s panicked eyes, trying to get him to see reality.

“You’re confusing habit with love, and that’s the problem. If we keep going based on that mistake, you’re just going to regret it later.”

“‘Habit’ and ‘love’ mean two completely different things. Once you mix them up, it changes everything.”

While Mortimer looked completely lost, Seraphina broke it down for him with total calm.

“We started off with dignity. For the past three years, I’ve compromised over and over just to keep things decent. So, when this ends, I really hope we don’t turn all my hard work into an ugly mess.”

She gave him a gentle, friendly smile. “Don’t you agree?”

Mortimer’s lips trembled, but he couldn’t get a single word out.

It was true. Over the past three years, she had covered up every single one of his awful moves, making their life look picture- perfect to the outside world.

He thought they had a happy mating, but it was actually held together entirely by her constantly backing down and swallowing her feelings.

“Mortimer, let’s just end it here.”

In the end, she said it as calmly as possible.

But to Mortimer, it felt like a death sentence.

Even though she didn’t hurt him physically, it felt like his heart had just stopped beating. His blood ran cold.

“Let’s… let’s not talk about this right now. You just rest. I’ll go check on Dash.” Dropping that, he turned and practically bolted out of the room, not even daring to look back.

Watching him run away, Seraphina could only shake her head and sigh.

“Why make it so hard, Mortimer?”

Mortimer practically fled the hospital.

He started his car and floored the gas, tearing down the highway.

The wild, violent emotions inside him and the tearing pain in his soul made it hard to breathe.

He just wanted to escape-to get as far away from that suffocating hospital room as possible.

The car finally screeched to a halt at the edge of the Shadow Forest.

Towering ancient trees blocked out the noise of the city. This was the true home of a wolf’s power.

Mortimer shoved the door open. The second his boots hit the fallen leaves, his tormented wolf completely lost it.

He didn’t even have time to strip. His bones cracked and shifted violently.

With an agonized roar, he shifted in a burst of dark mist.

A massive black wolf hit the ground, radiating heavy Alpha energy.

But its eyes didn’t have their usual untouchable pride. Instead, they were filled with the sheer despair of a trapped animal.

The wolf sprinted wildly through the deep woods. Sharp branches tore at its skin, but it didn’t even feel it.

It needed physical pain to numb the mentory of Seraphina’s cold, calm eyes.

“Stop running, Mortimer!”

Barton’s voice echoed in his head, weak but manic from the pain of losing their mating bond. “You felt-it, didn’t you?! That soul- crushing pain! That’s because she’s your true mate”

The black wolf slammed to a stop. A low whimper ripped from its throat as its huge claws dug deep into the dirt.

“True mate… How is that even possible? We only have a forced contract…” Mortimer shot back in his mind, feeling completely wrecked.

“The Moon Goddess doesn’t make mistakes! That contract was just her way of bringing her right to you! But you used your arrogance and cold-bloodedness to ruin the most perfect bond in the world!” Barton roared.

Then, his voice dropped, sounding almost like he was begging, “But since she’s our true mate, the bond won’t break that easily. Mortimer, Lily is just asleep. If you just try… maybe there’s still hope. You can’t let her go!”

True mate.

Those two words hit Mortimer’s empty chest like a shot of adrenaline.

His earlier confusion vanished, replaced by a sudden, crazy obsession. She couldn’t leave.

If they were meant to be, he was never letting go.

The black wolf tipped its head back and let out a heartbreaking but determined howl at the full moon.
