Ex-Mate Wants Me Back (Seraphina and Mortimer) novel Chapter 181

Chapter 181

Third Person’s PQV

A moment later, Seraphina knocked on the director’s office door. “Professor, you wanted to see me?”

“Yes, Sera, come on in.”

Professor Bauer put down his work and waved her over. “Here’s the deal. A few senior professors at the Shadowfang Academy are heading abroad for an exchange program for a while. The administration asked me to find someone to cover their classes, and after thinking it over, I realized you’re the best fit.”

Seraphina was a bit surprised. “You want me to substitute at the Academy?”

“Exactly. I need you to cover the clinical program for a bit. In a few days, another student of nine is coming back from overseas. He’ll be joining the Academy’s medical department as a full-time lecturer. Since you’re both my students, you can look out for each other.”

Seraphina thought it over and didn’t object.

Subbing at the Academy would give her a lot more flexibility with her schedule.

That way, she wouldn’t need to rely on Mortimer stepping in to help take care of Dash all the time. “Sounds good, Professor. I’m

in.”

“Great. Take the next few days to prep, and you can report to the medical department at the Academy next Monday.”

Leaving the director’s office, Seraphina remembered Caldwell was also flying back this week. His flight was landing on Saturday.

She also remembered she was scheduled for a shift that day.

Once she got back to her department, she tracked down Trista.

“Hey, a friend of mine is flying in from Alaska this Saturday and I need to pick him up. Can we swap shifts? Please?” Seraphina linked arms with Trista, putting on her best puppy-dog eyes.

“What kind of friend gets you to beg me like this?” Trista asked, instantly curious.

“It’s Caldwell. The guy who helped me out for those two weeks in Alaska.”

“Oh, him! Well, he practically saved your life. He used his pheromones to stabilize your wolf when she was breaking down. You definitely need to show him a good time.” Trista slapped her thigh. “Don’t sweat it, I’ve got you covered. I’ll take your shift.”

୮ “Thanks!”

After that, Seraphina filled Trista in on the substituting gig at the Academy, and then they both went back to work.

Meanwhile, at the Craig Corporation.

Right after the morning meeting, Tade walked into the CEO’s office holding a manila folder.

“Boss, we tracked down the couple who threw Dash into the sewer the other day,” Tade said. His face was etched with anger, bu there was also a complicated, hesitant look in his eyes.

“You got their IDs?” Mortimer took the folder and popped it open.

“We pulled these high-res shots of their faces from the street cameras after they left the alley,” Tade explained, secretly shooting Mortimer a cautious glance.

Mortimer pulled out the thick stack of photos Tade had printed.

The second he recognized the two people in the pictures, his expression instantly turned ice-cold.

“It’s them?”

The sneaky, cruel faces caught on the security footage perfectly overlapped with the incredibly sycophantic, flattering smiles he remembered.

Mortimer’s fingers dug hard into the edges of the photos. A strong wave of pure disgust and a cold sneer rose in his chest.

Actually, when he first saw the blurry footage of Dash being rescued, he had thought their silhouettes looked vaguely familiar. But he never in a million years imagined it would actually be Vivian’s parents. 1

Those damn two-faced hypocrites.

To his face, they always played the submissive, meek role, barely daring to breathe too loudly, constantly singing praises about the Craig family’s grace. But behind his back, they were ruthlessly torturing the puppy Seraphina cared for.

“This is the privilege you gave them, Mortimer.”

In his mind, his giant wolf Barton let out a low, violent roar, its sharp claws practically shredding his nerves. “It’s your indulgence that made them think it was perfectly fine to trample all over Mrs. Craig’s dignity just to please Vivian! Now they’ve even dared to lay a hand on Dash. You have to make them pay. Wash away this insult to the Alpha with their blood!” 1

Barton’s furious complaints made Mortimer’s temples throb. He couldn’t suppress the violent hostility boiling in his chest anymore.

It was his fault. He had handed out way too much protection, making the Davis family so inflated with ego that they didn’t even know their place anymore.

Since they dared to touch Dash, he was going to make them spit out everything they owed, with interest.
