Chapter 192

Third Person’s POV

Velda clutched her phone tightly trying her best to straighten her back. “…Do you think I’m the kind of low-ranking wolf who can just be bought with money? You’re insulting my loyalty!”

“One hundred million. Now, get lost.” Mortimer couldn’t be bothered to waste his breath on her. His voice dropped even lower, carrying the heavy, ultimate warning of an Alpha.

“…Deal. It’s not even about the money, really. I just genuinely believe that for the sake of the Pack’s future reproduction and harmony, you two need some private time as a married couple.” Velda didn’t even have time to blow Seraphina a kiss before she eagerly clutched her phone and scurried off, seamlessly vanishing into the distant crowd by the dance floor.

“Ugh… Luna, it’s really not that I’m a bad friend, but he’s just offering way too much!”

Mortimer set down a small plate of pastries and sat next to Seraphina.

“This cheesecake is completely egg-free. Have a little something to line your stomach first.”

Seraphina looked at the cheesecake on his plate. It was actually a kind she used to eat a lot.

Because of her egg allergy, she could only eat cakes made with zero egg ingredients.

This specific cheesecake was made by whipping heavy animal cream with sugar and vanilla extract, chilled until perfectly set without any baking-it was specially crafted for cake lovers with egg allergies.

She was actually getting a bit hungry, so she didn’t stand on ceremony. She took the plate and politely thanked him.

Seeing that Mortimer wasn’t getting up, looking dead set on staying glued to her side, Seraphina couldn’t help but ask, “There are a lot of VIPs here tonight. As the Alpha, shouldn’t you be out there greeting them?”

“It’s fine. Grandpa and my father are handling them,” Mortimer replied, leaning lazily against the back of the sofa.

He could tell Seraphina was trying to shoo him away again, but he refused to budge.

He knew he was running out of time.

He was using the kind of forceful, manipulative tactics he used to despise the most, just to forcefully keep her by his side.

Even if there was only a tiny, almost impossible glimmer of hope left, he wanted to try.

His destined Luna was so kind-hearted; maybe, just maybe, she would soften towards him.

But he hadn’t sat with her for long before the event coordinator hurried over.

“Alpha Mortimer, the gala program is about to start. We’ll need you to head up to the stage for your speech.”

As he spoke, he looked over at Seraphina. “And at the end, you’ll invite Madam to join you on stage.”

Hearing this, Seraphina frowned. “I have to go up too?”

Her tone held obvious resistance, making the coordinator’s expression instantly freeze.

He instinctively looked at Mortimer, a flash of panic in his eyes, terrified he had messed up.

“Alpha Mortimer…”

Mortimer didn’t make things difficult for him. “No need. I’ll just go up and say a few words on my own.”

The coordinator let out a massive sigh of relief. “Understood, Alpha Mortimer.”

At the same time, Seraphina also breathed a sigh of relief.

Faking intimacy with Mortimer up until this point tonight had already pushed her to her absolute limit.

If she had to stand on stage with him while hundreds of people stared at them, she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to hold it together and would end up ruining his night.

Lost in thought, she suddenly félt Mortimer’s warm, calloused hand firmly grasp hers.

She stiffened and looked up, meeting his deep, highly complicated gaze.

“Don’t worry.”

I won’t force you anymore-but he couldn’t bring himself to actually say those words out loud.

Only he knew that, whether it was the company team-building trip the other day or this massive anniversary gala tonight, he was constantly finding new ways to put her in a difficult position just to keep her close.

He stood up from the sofa and gently pulled Seraphina to her feet. “Let’s go.”

Inside the main hall, Mortimer led Seraphina to the very front row, taking the center seats.

Sitting in the front row with them were the core elders of the pack and the most influential elites in society.

Meanwhile, the Davis family had been coldly relegated to the third row.

Vivian’s seat was dead center in the third row. As luck would have it, looking straight over the backs of the second-row chairs, her line of sight was aimed directly at Mortimer and Seraphina.
