Third Person’s POV
“Mortimer, I know I was wrong. shouldn’t have kept calling you away from Seraphina I know I messed up. Please don’t shut me out, okay?”
As she spoke, tears began rolling down her cheeks. Perhaps genuinely terrified of being completely abandoned by him, Vivian’s crying was far more sincere this time.
Unfortunately for her, Mortimer’s face showed absolutely nothing but sheer impatience.
“During that half-month, besides turning off my phone, you’d better pray I don’t find out you did anything else. Otherwise, don’t expect me to care about the fact that you saved my life.” 1
Mortimer’s freezing words hit Vivian like a physical punch to the gut, draining the last bit of color from her already pale face. Dropping that cold warning, Mortimer picked up his plates of food and walked away without a second glance.
Meanwhile, Velda had wandered over and sat down next to Seraphina.
From their spot on the sofa, they had a clear view of where Mortimer and Vivian were standing.
Even though they couldn’t hear what the two were saying, both Seraphina and Velda were more than used to Vivian turning on the waterworks at the drop of a hat.
“She can literally cry on command,” Velda muttered, her tone dripping with intense disgust.
Ever since Vivian saved Mortimer when he was sixteen, she had practically paraded around with a VIP pass.
The Davis family had milked that one life-saving favor for God-knows-how-many handouts from the Blade Pack.
Honestly, a life debt should be repaid. And what Mortimer gave the Davises was just money and resources anyway, so she never really had a problem with it.
But after her brother got married, Vivian didn’t know how to back off. She threw herself at him more than anyone. As a werewolf –a species that held family and mate loyalty above all else-Velda had been sick of her for a long time.
Compared to Velda’s irritation, Seraphina barely reacted to seeing Mortimer and Vivian chatting again.
In fact, hearing Velda complain actually made her laugh out loud.
“How are you still laughing?!” Velda huffed indignantly, shooting a glare at her brother’s back.
“Tonight is supposed to be your and my brother’s night, but she showed up dressed like a peacock strutting all over the place.”
Vivian was wearing a light blue, wide-hemmed gown constructed entirely from snowy owl feathers, layered meticulously all the way down to the skirt. When she walked, the feathers ruffled like a bird flapping its wings.
Just looking at the materials and craftsmanship, it was obviously insanely expensive.
But it was also incredibly heavy and bulky-great for a red carpet, but completely impractical for a cocktail gala. It screamed ” look at me,” desperately trying to upstage the actual hosts.
It was painfully obvious that Vivian had pulled out all the stops for tonight.
”
“I really don’t mind, so you shouldn’t be mad either.” Seraphina patted Velda’s shoulder to soothe her.
“Just make sure your brother doesn’t hear you trash-talking Vivian, or he’ll use his Alpha privileges to cut your allowance again.
“Pfft, I’m not scared of him,” Velda rolled her eyes.

“Honestly, I sometimes wonder if Vivian really was the one who saved the former Luna and Mortimer back then. With my werewolf instincts, I just don’t get the vibe that Vivian is the type of person who would ever risk her own neck for someone else.”
The “former Luna” Velda referred to was Mortimer’s mother.
Actually, Seraphina had her own doubts about that story, but she kept them to herself.
If she ever voiced them, Mortimer would just assure she was being petty and jealous of Vivian.
“Oh, by the way, Sera, about those top-tier bachelors I showed you last time-do you want to take another look? They’re all still single. Some haven’t even had a girlfriend yet.”
As she spoke, Velda pulled her phone out of her clutch.
However, the second she unlocked the screen, a large, well-defined hand radiating pure aggression shot out from the side and snatched the phone right out of her grasp.
Velda’s head snapped up, immediately locking eyes with Mortimer. His handsome face was so dark it looked like a brewing
thunderstorm.
“Hey! Why did you snatch my phone?!”
Mortimer remained completely expressionless. His long fingers swiped rapidly across the screen, bypassing every other app and tapping straight into her photo gallery.
Then, right in front of Velda’s face, he found the custom album labeled “Backup Candidates for Luna” and ruthlessly hit “Delete
All.”
