Mortimer swallowed hard. He quietly looked away, lowering his head with a bitter, self deprecating smile. He forced the profound loneliness and sharp pain in his eyes back into the shadows.
After Mortimer stepped off the stage, the heads or few other departments gave brief speeches and shared their outlook for the
new year.
Once they wrapped up, the host announced for everyone to take their seats for the banquet.
The seating arrangements had all been meticulously planned out with name cards, so everyone just needed to sit in their designated spots.
But of course, someone just had to cause a scene.
After his speech, Mortimer was pulled aside by a few elder pack members for a quick chat. Seraphina went ahead and took her exclusive VIP seat in the very front row.
Right after she sat down, someone suddenly appeared next to her.
Seraphina instinctively looked up, only to see Vivian standing by her chair in that heavy, complicated feathered gown, glaring down at her with a bizarre expression.
“Seraphina, this seat is supposed to be mine,” Vivian hissed, gripping her skirt tightly. Her voice was low, but it dripped with pure, undeniable delusion.
“For years, whether it was a small dinner or a massive gala, I was the one standing by Mortimer’s side. You don’t fit in here at all. Now that Mortimer isn’t around, please have a little self-awareness and give this seat to me.”
Seraphina almost laughed out of sheer annoyance.
But for the sake of the Pack’s dignity, she maintained her perfect manners and politely refused. “Miss Davis, these seats are assigned by the organizers. I am the wife of the Craig Corporation’s CEO. If you have an issue with the seating chart, you should take it up with the PR department or Tade, not tell me to get up.”
“You…” Vivian didn’t expect the usually aloof Seraphina to shut her down so flatly.
Her eyes instantly turned red, and tears started falling without warning.
She looked as pitiful and wronged as could be, immediately drawing the attention of the VIPS at the surrounding tables.
Just then, the sound of heavy, steady footsteps approached. Mortimer strode back, his face completely dark.
He hadn’t expected Vivian to pull a stunt like this right now.
He immediately stepped between the two women, firmly shielding his Luna behind him, and demanded coldly, “What are you doing?”
Mortimer’s freezing tone made the color drain from Vivian’s face.
But perhaps she was too triggered tonight; even under the icy, lethal glare of a top-tier Alpha, she stubbornly stood her ground.
Ignoring the fact that there were hundreds of guests around, she bit her lower lip and looked at Mortimer with teary, pleading
eyes.
“Mortimer, my legs went completely numb from standing in the back earlier. It really hurts. Can you just let me sit next to you? I’ve always sat with you before, I’m used to it…”
With that, Vivian let out a delicate, breathy gasp. Acting as if her strength had completely given out, her body went limp as she

tried to collapse gracefully against Mortimer’s broad chest.
But Mortimer had long lost every last drop of patience with her. With absolute ruthlessness, he took a massive step to the side.
Vivian missed her target entirely She stumbled hard, almost falling flat on her face between the two chairs in front of everyone. She looked utterly pathetic.
After clumsily catching her balance, she decided to just go all in. Right in front of the surrounding high-ranking wolves and elites who had already taken their seats, she cried out resentfully. “Mortimer, how can you be so heartless to me? Did you forget you used to say I was the most special person in your life and that you would take care of me forever? Why did everything change the second Seraphina showed up?”
The moment she spouted those ambiguous, highly suggestive words, a chorus of collective gasps echoed around them.
The elegant atmosphere of the gala instantly turned incredibly awkward. Countless gossipy, subtle stares darted wildly back and forth between Mortimer, Seraphina, and Vivian.
The Blade members was speechless.
What was there to even say?
Seraphina felt zero emotional turbulence; she honestly just wanted to laugh.
She wasn’t sure if Vivian really had that rumored “weak wolf spirit” syndrome, but this woman’s mental state was definitely unhinged.
Pulling a stunt at the pack’s most important anniversary gala, right in front of all the core members and VIP outsiders, blatantly dragging the Alpha’s name through the mud and provoking her, the Luna in name.
