Chapter 197
Third Person’s POV
Let alone her, even Mortimer himself couldn’t think of a single reason why Seraphina should forgive him right now.
Yet, like a freezing traveler dying in the wasteland, he still looked at her with desperate, pleading eyes, craving redemption from his mate.
But Seraphina’s wolf-the very core of her emotions-remained completely unfazed. After a split-second pause, she just calmly shook her head.
Mortimer’s eyes instantly lit up. Deep within his dim gaze, a faint glimmer of his golden wolf pupils flashed. “Sera…”
“There’s no such thing as forgiveness between us.”
Seraphina continued, her voice as cold as a handful of snow. “Mortimer, I’ve never hated you.”
Hearing those words, Mortimer didn’t feel the relief or joy he should have.
Instead, his sharp instincts instantly deciphered the absolute, freezing detachment behind her statement.
“You just simply didn’t love me. What right do I have to hate you for that, Mortimer?” Seraphina looked at him with a faint
smile.
From the moment she willingly signed that contract, she had forfeited the right to hate or resent him.
“So, the word ‘forgiveness’ doesn’t apply to us. Stop obsessing over this. Go home. I need to rest.”
With that, ignoring whatever turmoil was going on in his head, she pulled her hand back, unlocked the door, and carried Dash
inside.
Outside, Mortimer leaned heavily against the wall, sliding down little by little as if every ounce of strength had been drained from his body.
Logic told him he really should just let go. Pushing any harder would only make Seraphina despise him more.
But he couldn’t control the wild, primal craving for his mate raging inside his body. He had missed out on her for three whole years. To ask him to just give up now… he couldn’t accept it. He absolutely could not accept it.
Inside, Seraphina didn’t spare another thought for Mortimer out in the hal
She went back to her bedroom, peeled off the exhausting gown, scrubbed her makeup off in the bathroom, and took a nice, hot shower.
After drying her hair, she picked up her phone from the nightstand to check the time, only to see a new, unread text message.
“Don’t get too smug, Seraphina. Mortimer is just temporarily bewitched by you.”
Seraphina’s lips twitched. She didn’t even need to check the caller ID to guess who it was from.
She had no idea how Vivian’s brain worked. On one hand, she firmly believed Mortimer had zero feelings for his Luna, but on the other hand, she couldn’t stop coming over to pick fights.
What a walking contradiction.
Too lazy to even reply, she casually tossed Vivian’s number right onto her block list.
But even so, Seraphina couldn’t completely avoid Vivian.
The very next afternoon, just as Seraphina was finishing up with her last patient, Vivian marched right into her consultation
room.

When she heard the footsteps, Seraphina was in the middle of organizing some patients’ wolf spirit fluctuation files.
She looked up from the paperwork, and her eyebrows knitted together when she saw Vivian.
“Can I help you?” she asked, snapping the medical file shut. Her tone was completely indifferent.
Vivian glared at her coldly and slowly shut the clinic door.
Her perfectly manicured acrylic nails scraped against the lock, making a harsh, grating sound.
Then, she slammed her designer bag onto the desk, scoffed, and sneered, “Seraphina, you must be feeling pretty damn pleased with yourself right now, huh?”
Seraphina didn’t even bat an eye, genuinely confused. “Excuse me?”
“Cut the crap!” Vivian’s face twisted into a vicious, ugly glare.
She stared dead at Seraphina’s perfectly calm face, her fingers neurotically twisting together. The jealousy inside her ate away at her sanity like a venomous snake.
How the hell could this woman still look so perfectly elegant?
Just thinking about the image of Mortimer half-kneeling to change Seraphina’s shoes last night made her want to grind her teeth into dust. “Mortimer blocked every single one of my numbers! He won’t even see me! Are you happy now? You’re laughing at me right now, aren’t you?”
Vivian was spiraling. Her chest heaved violently, and her heavily powdered face looked grotesque with rage, as if she were about to leap across the desk and strangle Seraphina.
