Chapter 196
Third Person’s POV
“Snap out of it!”
Seeing his daughter looking practically possessed, Connor felt a chill run down his spine.
He didn’t give Vivian another chance to cause a scene. He shot a sharp look to two Davis family servants who had followed them
out.
“Shove her in the car, lock the doors, and take her straight back to the old estate. Without my explicit permission, she is not to step half a foot out of the exile zone!”
No matter how loudly Vivian screamed or how hard she fought, she was ultimately dragged out of the lobby by her own family guards and shoved into the dark car waiting in the night.
Meanwhile, back in the banquet hall.
After everyone settled back into their seats, the atmosphere at the front table was a mixed bag.
The surrounding guests exchanged silent, knowing looks. When they looked at Mortimer, some eyes held pity, others held a hunger for gossip, but most people honestly just thought he got what he deserved.
If he hadn’t spoiled the Davis family with absolutely zero boundaries or principles over the last decade, Vivian never would have had the guts or the audacity to pull a stunt like that at the pack’s most public, high-profile event.
Seraphina was the only one who remained a complete bystander from beginning to end.
She didn’t even bat an eye at the ridiculous drama Vivian had single-handedly directed, nor did she offer a single word of
commentary.
Through a subtle, unspoken agreement among the guests, the absurd little interlude was smoothly glossed over, as if it had never happened beneath the elegant strains of the waltz.
During dinner, a few top-tier pop stars and idols were brought in to perform.
They were glamorous, energetic, and highly entertaining.
Their performances easily drew everyone’s attention away, successfully burying the absolute joke Vivian had just made of herself.
Mortimer, however, was in no mood to watch the show. His eyes were unfocused, his mind clearly a million miles away.
And it didn’t help that Velda kept buzzing annoyingly in his ear.
“Luna, look at that guy. Eight-pack abs.”
“Luna, this one’s cute too, do you like him? I’ll go get his number for you. He’s probably single, so it’s fair game.”
“Luna…”
Edwin had originally been sitting on Seraphina’s right, but Velda had specifically swapped seats with him.
From the look of it, she absolutely refused to give up until she successfully hooked Seraphina up with a new man.
“Velda. Shut up.”
Mortimer finally reached his limit. His low voice carried the heavy, unmistakable warning of an Alpha, cutting off Velda’s aggressive sales pitch.
So his one hundred million had only bought him a few minutes of peace?

Velda rolled her eyes at him. But thinking about the massive fortuné currently sitting in her bank account, and seeing her own brother’s face looking like he was about to shift and go on a killing spree, she decided not to push her luck.
“I’m just trying to make her happy,” she muttered. The next second, a massive chunk of meat was shoved directly into her
mouth.
“Just eat your food. Even eating can’t shut your mouth,” Surin shot her daughter a sharp warning glare. Only then did Velda finally, reluctantly, chew her food and keep quiet.
“Heh. Poor Mortimer,” she thought.
Sitting next to Seraphina, Mortimer kept using his sharp peripheral vision to carefully gauge fter expression. But all he saw, over and over, was that same unbothered, detached calmness.
He mocked himself internally again-what was he expecting?
Was he expecting her to blow up at him? To demand to know why he had let Vivian sit in the Luna’s designated seat all those years?
Was he hoping she would get angry, or jealous, or possessive?
He was the one who had caused all of this by indulging Vivian in the past. Ending up in this pathetic situation was entirely his own fault for being a blind, idiotic Alpha. He had brought this on himself.
By the time the gala ended, it was past ten o’clock.
Suffocating in his own misery, Mortimer had downed quite a lot of hard liquor throughout the night.
When they arrived downstairs at Seraphina’s apartment building, she was holding Dash, just about to head inside. Suddenly, a burning hot hand clamped down hard on her wrist. 1
The grip was incredibly strong at first, but the second it touched her skin, he consciously and tightly reined in his strength, loosening his hold.
Seraphina turned around, looking straight into Mortimer’s bloodshot eyes.
Heavy alcohol and emotions that were dangerously close to snapping completely rampaged through his body. His pupils were trembling violently, rapidly and painfully flashing between human black and feral, golden wolf eyes.
His usually steady, controlled Alpha scent had turned chaotic and violent, carrying a dark, aggressive edge that felt like it could swallow a person whole.
Mortimer’s heavy, ragged breaths filled the air. His gaze drifted downward uncontrollably, locking dead onto Seraphina’s pale, fragile neck exposed to the night air.
His werewolf instincts and the wildness in his blood were screaming at him.
He desperately, overwhelmingly wanted to lunge forward, sink his teeth brutally into her scent gland, and fill it with his own possessive mark, locking her down in his territory forever.
