Chapter 237
Third Person’s POV
Seraphina wheeled Dash into the faculty office.
Since she was only filling in as a lecturer and didn’t hold à faculty appointment at Shadowfang Acadeiny, she didn’t have an office of her own. Instead, she shared one with two other instructors.
When she walked in with Dash, someone was already there
“Sera, you’re here! We heard you’d be teaching at Shadowfang.”
Seraphina nodded with a smile.
The two instructors she shared the office with happened to be her former undergraduate classmates. They’d stayed on as faculty after graduation, and, by coincidence, were assigned to the same office. Since they already knew each other, there was no need for formalities.
Well-behaved and never one to make a fuss, Dash was easy to love.
They’d even set up a little bed for him in the office, complete with a pile of toys.
The thoughtful gesture brightened Seraphina’s mood. Even the irritation Mortimer and Vivian had stirred up faded a little.
“It’s your first day teaching,” one of them said. “Go on-we’ll look after Dash.”
After organizing her lecture notes, Seraphina crouched beside Dash and gently reminded him to behave before heading out with her teaching materials in her arms. The moment she stepped into the hallway, she saw Caldwell walking toward her with an insulated food bag in hand.
“There’s still time. Have breakfast first,” he said.
Seraphina paused, remembering she’d planned to grab breakfast before Vivian had interrupted everything.
“Thank you. How did you know I hadn’t eaten?” she replied, accepting the bag without hesitation.
“Maybe…” He paused deliberately. “Because I have a Toasty at home, so I know how to take care of one.”
His voice was low, laced with quiet amusement.
The first Toasty referred to his cat. The second referred to her.
Seraphina understood the words, but not the deeper meaning.
Even so, one thing was certain-hearing him call her that left her with a feeling she couldn’t quite pinpoint. She looked up and shot him a warning glare. “Don’t call me that again.”
Caldwell raised both hands in surrender, a soft laugh escaping him. “My bad. I’m so used to saying it that it slipped out.”
Seraphina opened the bag. The smell of breakfast instantly reminded her how hungry she was. Since class was about to start she hurried through her food.
Caldwell frowned slightly. He took out the carton of milk, inserted the straw, and handed it to her. “Slow down. You’ve got plenty of time.”
“Thanks.” Seraphina took the milk. “I should get going. Are you free for lunch? I’d like to treat you.”
Caldwell nodded with a smile. “Now that we’re colleagues, of course.”
Seraphina nodded and hurried toward the academic building.

Caldwell stayed where he was, watching her disappear into the distance, and shook his head with a smile.
After leaving Shadowfang Academy, Vivian rushed straight to the Craig Group headquarters, her cheek still red and swollen from Seraphina’s slap.
She hadn’t even touched up her makeup After what had happened last time, she didn’t dare waste a single second. She was afraid her weak healing ability would erase the handprint on her face before Mortimer saw it.
Today, it was her greatest weapon for stirring his guilt and sympathy.
But the moment she stepped into the company lobby, her heart sank.
The atmosphere was completely different from her last visit. Back then, she’d been surrounded by employees eager to flatter her. This time, whether it was the reception staff or the executives passing through, everyone’s expression subtly changed the moment they saw her.
A faint scent of disdain and rejection toward her drifted through the air.
A few younger employees even rolled their eyes and snorted as she walked past.
“She actually has the nerve to come here? The video of her family abusing Mrs. Craig’s dog is still trending everywhere online, and she just marches in as if nothing happened.”
“Seriously. She has no shame. Last time, she strutted around like Alpha Mortimer’s future mate. I fell for it and defended her all over social media. My supervisor docked my performance bonus because of it. Talk about bad luck.”
Vivian heard every sharp comment loud and clear.
