Caldwell frowned slightly, a hint of gloom flashing across his handsome features, but he said nothing.

Some things depended on timing. If the timing was wrong, the outcome would be completely different:

Bauer broke the silence. “As far as I know, Sera has already lost faith in Mortimer. She won’t give him another chance to repair their mating bond. Don’t rush things. At the very least, wait until she has completely severed her mating bond with him.”

A confident smile returned to Caldwell’s lips. “Don’t worry, Professor. I won’t let her get caught up in any rumors or gossip

because of me.”

“Good. That’s all I wanted to hear.” Bauer patted his shoulder. “Come on, let’s go get something to eat. Lunch is on me today.”

“She was treating me to lunch today, Professor. I didn’t know this was supposed to be a group outing.”

“Who is ‘she’?” Bauer froze.

“Well…” Caldwell smiled. “A beautiful little kitten I’m planning to bring back to my den.”

“Oh, stop it!” Bauer laughed and gave him a light kick.

Shadowfang Academy, Rosewood Dining Hall.

“Professor, don’t hold back. Let me treat you to lunch today.” Seraphina said with a smile.

Bauer glanced knowingly at Caldwell, who was sitting beside Seraphina. “Someone was just complaining in the hallway that I was getting in the way of his private lunch.”

Caldwell glanced at Seraphina, not the slightest bit embarrassed at being caught. “She invited me to a private lunch to thank me today. Professor, I wasn’t expecting this to turn into a group meal.”

“How could it be?” Seraphina smiled and smoothly stepped in. “It’s my honor to have lunch with both my professor and my senior.”

She handed the menu to Caldwell. “Caldwell, don’t hold back. Enjoy whatever you like.”

Caldwell accepted it with a smile. “Thank you.”

His voice lifted slightly at the end, making Bauer shake his head. “If this kid hasn’t been keeping his wolf tail hidden, it will probably have been wagging wildly by now,” Bauer thought.

Just then, a deep voice with an overwhelming presence shattered the pleasant atmosphere at the table.

“Sera.”

The smile on Seraphina’s face froze slightly.

Deep within her consciousness, Lily, the wolf who had been lazily licking her paws, instantly arched her back and let out a disgusted growl. “What a nuisance Sera, that stupid Alpha is here again. He still has that Omega’s scent on him.”

Seraphina gently soothed her in her mind. “Ignore him, Lily. He’s not worth your attention.”

She looked up and saw Mortimer standing beside the table, his expression complicated.

His gaze lingered on Caldwell beside her for a moment. The Alpha’s instinctive sense of territory made every muscle in his body tighten.

But he quickly forced himself to look away. He pulled out the chair on Seraphina’s left and sat down naturally. “Professor Bauer, it’s been a long time.”

Bauer gave a dry nod.

His sharp senses had already detected the invisible pressure building between the two Alphas. He secretly regretted coming along for this meal.
