Ex-Mate Wants Me Back (Seraphina and Mortimer) novel Chapter 268

Chapter 268

Third Person’s POV

Seraphina was caught off guard by his sudden question.

She’d never considered something like that before.

But then she remembered that in just a few days, her mating bond with Mortimer would be officially severed.

Once that happened, there wouldn’t be a single link left connecting her to him.

Caldwell, however, was different. He’d saved her life and taken such meticulous care of her while they were in Alaska.

If it hadn’t been for those two weeks of his care and encouragement, she honestly didn’t know how she would’ve made it through.

At that thought, she no longer hesitated. “You’re my senior,” she replied. “Of course I’ll take your side.”

Caldwell froze for a moment. Then a smile slowly spread through his eyes.

A moment later, Seraphina added, “But if you really don’t want anything to do with the Craigs anymore, it’s best to just lay it out and make things clear to them.”

Caldwell stayed silent for a few seconds. Dropping the gentle demeanor he usually used to hide his aggressive beastly side, he gave a nod. “Alright.”

Seraphina looked at him with mild confusion.

Just then, Mortimer returned from taking Dash downstairs for a short walk.

After that, the cousins completely ignored each other, each taking up an opposite end of the couch.

“Lunch is ready! Come eat, guys.” After carrying the last dish to the table, Garfield called out to everyone in the living room.

“Sera, go set out the tableware,” Thomasina instructed.

Seraphina was just about to head for the kitchen when the two Alphas spoke at the exact same time, “I’ll do it.”

Hearing each other’s voices, Mortimer and Caldwell shot hostile glares across the room, as if invisible fangs were tearing into each other in the air.

But they quickly looked away. Caldwell turned to Seraphina’s mom and said, “Thomasina, Sera and I were up chatting until past four in the morning last night, so she should get some rest. Just give me whatever chores need to be done. If it weren’t for me, she wouldn’t have stayed up so late.”

Thomasina frowned slightly.

Even Seraphina felt his words sounded a bit weird, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on why.

After all, they really had talked until late into the night. Caldwell hadn’t lied.

When Mortimer heard it, his face visibly darkened because of his pride and possessiveness as an Alpha.

He couldn’t believe his Luna had spent that long talking with another he-wolf last night.

Jealousy welled up inside him. Yet he didn’t dare question Seraphina about it.

Instead, he frowned at Caldwell and said coldly, “Since you knew she needed rest, then why did you keep her talking that late? Have you no shame?”

Caldwell put on a slightly flustered look as he turned to Seraphina and asked, “Sera, was I too talkative last night? Did I keep you from getting enough sleep?”
